Manny Fernandez has a herniated disk in his back. Fernandez\'s been out since October 22nd with a knee injury and back spasms. It\'s not clear when Boston hopes to have Fernandez back between the pipes.

It turns out that it is Manny Fernandez\'s knee that is keeping him out of action. All reports had Fernandez\'s problems emanating from a bad back, but GM Peter Chiarelli stated on Saturday that the problem was a wonky knee and he could require surgery to fix the problem. \"The back\'s fine, but right now, we are testing the whole package,\" said Chiarelli. \"The main issue is the knee; we want to see how durable it is.\" The Bruins sent Fernandez to the minors on a conditioning stint. Start looking elsewhere for goaltending help if you were relying on a Manny Fernandez comeback.
