Yep, hard to see Filatov not panning out but that also goes to show that trading for prospects is a crap shoot, no matter how good they look before they hit the NHL. All those who say "book it" and "take it to the bank" and all those other crazy sayings in regards to prospects should really hold off.

Tangradi is about to break out, I can feel it! I've got him pegged for a career high 10 points this season.

Started reading this thread and was confused to see Hall's name at the top of a "prospect" list. Then I looked at the date. All good now.

When I inherited my team, Louis Leblanc was the most recently drafted guy on the roster by the previous GM. He had a serious thing for all things Montreal Canadiens. I jettisoned him for a pick that became Braden Holtby. Holtby scored 58 points in the shortened '13 season, while Louis L. sat at home and played with Lego. He won't do any better as A Duck.

    Agreed.

I think Joe Colborne still has some value and JUST started to show it last year but the rest, meh.

Holtby scored 58 pts that year? Did they have him on the wing that year?

This thread is a great lesson in not buying into the hype over prospects too much. Your batting average is not that great. Yet every year you see threads about trading proven for the current prospect fad. I guess the shiny new thing allure is too much to resist
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

Certainly gives a bit more merit to the old "proven vs potential" arguement eh?

At the same time one of the most important things in keeper leagues is to know when to move on from your proven player. Otherwise your 100 point Dany Heatley will end up into 25 point player and you won't get anything from him. So while you can't buy into the hype of prospects too much you also can't get too attached into your proven players' old performances.

As Kenny Rogers says, you gotta know when to hold'em and when to fold 'em!
