I haven't had any HUGE screwups, but here's my most memorable dumb moves in the dynasty I've been in (now entering year 3)

    1) Going into a dynasty draft not having a clue that age is important and not researching prospects beforehand (played it like a 1 year league).

    2) Drafting Lidstrom 2 years ago with my 3rd round pick (35th) with guys like Stastny, Nash, Toews, Kopitar, Richards, Perry, Miller, Sedin, Ward, etc available. Luckily was able to get Hodgson for him in a trade (league hates old guys)

    3) Dropping Wayne Simmonds last year. Didn't think much of him at the time, but could really use his PIM in my league format.

    4) Drafting Rob Blake the pick before Mark Streit (again, played that draft like a 1 year. Even with that in mind, dumb pick).

    5) Dropping Hornqvist 2 years ago for Owen Nolan.

When Karlsson got sent to the minors for a short stint, I hung onto him for about 2 weeks then decided "screw it I need points now and this Chris Butler dude sees some PP time."

Karlsson got called up about 2 days later (by my arch rival) and is now pretty much untouchable in our league format (pts only salary cap). Oh well my D still turned out alright.

Wasn't me but in a friend keeper, One GM went after Kariya BEFORE last season started (dobber's infamous 83pt prediction)...

He gave up Doughty and a 1st round pick (3rd overall) FOR Kariya and a 3rd round.

He loves hearing about that one.

I feel your pain. Flashback to my league draft heading into the 08-09 season. Towards the end I pass on Karlsson, then tell one of the other GMs in the league to snag him. This offseason, I traded Phaneuf and the 7th overall to that same GM for Karlsson. Ugh.

Dropped Pekka Rinne early last year when he was struggling and my entire team was struggling.

Picked up Jon Quick off waivers to replace him, so it was okay last year....but I would LOVE to still have Rinne. I just think he's a pimp. Mind you, I later moved Quick in a package deal for Tavares...so that wasn't too bad.

Also gave up Henrik Sedin last fall for Marleau and Oshie. Clearly, I did not foresee Hank's 112pt year. I like Oshie a lot and Marleau is a good player, but I'd love to still have Henrik.

1st year in long running salary cap keeper league with about another 4 new guys to the league in the year after the lock-out. Hadn't watched hockey for a while. Didn't think the entry/farm team picks were a good idea because of the cap hit so I passed my 1st overall entry pick to the shock of everyone... why?

Several years ago in my keeper I used my 1st overall draft pick for Colby Armstrong , it was a huge gamble , he had performed very well in his 1st stint the season before in the playoffs for the Pens. The hype was huge and the Pens were to be the future dynasty team.In a word BUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not me but my friend in the first year of my keeper league he sent his grandmother to pick because he was busy that day and his team ended up looking like this.
    Daniel Sedin(Keeper)
    Henrik Sedin(Keeper)
    Loui Eriksson(Keeper)
    Viktor Kozlov
    Jordan Staal(Keeper)
    Mark Rechhi
    Jason Pominville(Keeper)
    Peter Sykora
    Colby Armstrong
    Ryan Malone
    Chris Pronger(Keeper)
    Kimo Timonen(Keeper)
    Marc-Edourd Vlasic
    Paul Martin(Keeper)
    Wade Redden
    Trevor Daley
    Cam Ward(Keeper)
    J.S. Giguere
He finished 199 points back but has a decent core of players and with a good draft this year could become a competitive team. But I think he learned his lesson.lol

Late last season...trading Kessel for a 1st round pick....in a pool where there are 12 teams and you have 15 keepers. That's how much I hate him.

Speaking of Kessel... not me (but some other GM) traded his first and second this year and his first next year for the guy. The first turned out to be Seguin and the 1st next year looks to be a top 5 pick. To make matters worse, Kessel doesnt even have a center to pass him the puck!!

    Yikes...

The dumbest move I can remember making is in my first year of fantasy hockey a few years ago: I drafted Martin Havlat in the 5th round. Guys like Vanek, Marleau, Semin and Eric Staal went right after him.

    I still cringe at that.
