    Default Basking in the afterglow

    Just made a trade....

I swapped Semin for Kopitar. I'm liking it a lot, and want to know your thoughts.
Seems simple enough right? 80+ Center for 80+ Winger? Boring at first glance, but......

Semin makes me nervous (injury, sporadic production, khl, is he moved, etc...), and my recent acquisition of Perry made me feel more comfortable moving him.

Kopitar really solidifies my centers and now allows me to move Carter and/or Weiss for draft picks. I also believe Kops has a higher probability of reaching hhis full production potential than Semin.

So I'm happy. Should I be?

Yes, you should be happy, good deal.

Semin could go crazy and bag a ton of pts. but Kopitar is steady and the real deal.

Frankenberry is also healthier than Semin, has a steady home, and is in no way a KHL threat.

Pop open your finest bubbly, you did good.

Cool! That's what I was thinking insofar as Kopitar's stability, etc...

    Thanks, fungchen!

Solid deal. Even though it hurts positionally it's certainly a deal I'd like to make. There are certain players like Semin who I'll probably never own because I have no desire to deal with his injuries. I've seen Semin dealt for less so you might consider yourself lucky.

Yeah, Semin to me, is the type of player who is impossible to trade for. But, if you have him (in most cases) you should stick with him, take his good numbers, and pray for the deal he plays 80 games.

You rarely get fair market value for Semin because of his risks. In your case BB, you were able to snag great value and pounced!! Me, I have him and would never land a return like Franken, so I will ride the Semin wave!!

Thanks all for the comments, I appreciate the feedback. I was looking over the league roster and noticed this particular GM was very thin at winger so dangling Semin's 80+ pts in front of him I figured Kopitar was a realistic grab.

I really like the long term stability Kopitar adds to my roster. Frolik is still a wait-and-see type player; Weiss I like but doesn't have Kopitar's upside; and Carter I see as another Semin-type player insofar as his reliability as a producer.

Really makes sense if Frolik gets designated as a winger as he should in your league.

Couldn't agree more, shoeless, unfortunately our league designates position via NHL.com's player profiles.

That's been a bone of contention amongst GM's in our league for some time now, but nothing I can do at the moment but hope. Kessel was a center on my roster all last season because of that rule. I fought it to no avail.

Luckily after the season ended nhl.com got their shit together and finally listed him as a winger. Which made me smile.....

I'm a big Semin fan, but I'd probably rather have Kopitar for one major reason: Semin probably won't be with the Caps by this time next year.

If Semin had a long term contract with the Caps, I might actually go with him because of his dual wing eligibility in our league and his teammates.

Both are great players, but I think you made the right decision.

lmao...yes you did, loco! Yes you did. I think we're both smiling a little brighter!!

Thanks, all for the comments - I needed the affirmation. Sometimes ya make a trade that looks great, and then when it's all said and done ya take a step back and say "I did what?!?"

I drafted Kopitar in the 5th round 3 years ago in my keeper pool and haven't looked back since... he is money.
