Great idea for a thread fzusher!

I have the 9th, 12th and 24th pick in this year's draft (2 rounds, 24 picks). I have a handful of guys targeted for those 9th, 12th spots so seeing how other peoples drafts have gone is helping me figure out who to take at 9 hoping one of the other guys will drop.

My draft won't happen until laste August/early September but I'll post when it happens.

    LW: Ovechkin, Hall, Gaudreau, Huberdeau

    D: Hedman,
    G: Schneider, Hellebuyck*
Prospects: Lazar, Mantha, Bjorkstrand, Gillies, P.L. Dubois, Konency

This is the most interesting list I've read yet. Lots of guys shooting from the hip here. I just can't follow the logic of many of these picks and I'm in two 30 team salary cap keeper leagues. Seems that many people in this league put far more emphasis in a hope and a prayer than they do in on ice production. I can just imagine a time-warp to three years ago, Berfors would have been top 15 pick. Two years ago Chet Pickard would have filled Jack Campbell's spot, etc, etc. Don't fall victim to the 2010 draft hype!

I would think being in a 30 team a guy like Bergfors would look more attractive. But, I'm Pittsburgh in that league and guy like Bergfors isn't cracking my main roster and he's low on my bench totem pole for coming in as injury replacement. We have a 13 man bench and then a 8 player prospect roster where guys can stay till they are 25. So, I'd rather take a young prospect with higher upside because I can afford to wait for him to hit his potential. Maybe he gets there, maybe he doesn't. If he does I'm laughing, if he doesn't who cares? I ain't shedding no tears over losing Bergfors. I might if I lose out on the next Semin or Getzlaf.

Most teams are going for the home run shot as opposed to the single.

yeah there are a couple of things going on with this particular pool that might shed some light... First, we expanded our prospect roster from 5 to 8 spots thus summer and only prospects drafted in our entry draft are eligible to be placed there so GMs I think wanted to fill those spots up first as current players like bergfors can be picked up in the upcoming FA period. Secondly, we have two expansion teams that have guaranteed top draft picks in upcoming years which everyone wants to pillage, errr I mean trade for and all they want is prospects so people are loading up on them. Prospects in general are heavily coveted because if they pan out early then their inexpensive ELCs can be very useful for cash strapped GMs (and almost everyone in the league has cap issues lol). For my situation, I already have good bench depth so I wanted to bulk up my prospects cause alot of times a decent prospect throw in can be the difference between getting a deal done or not.

Of course, there was some poolie talk regarding a quote by EJ macGuire (head of NHL central scouting) saying this was the deepest draft he'd every seen, which of course put the hype machine into uber warp drive as far as this draft was concerned lol... Newer = shinier apparently!

Some suprises, no one selected Kuznetsov who I am high on. I should've taken him at 26 but wanted LeBlanc. Come Sept 1 we can add FA's but not without subtraction and I don't really have anyone to drop. Jeremy Morin was still there also

I took 15 random drafts just for a sampling to see the average pick the top 36 players. Minimum 9 drafts. Amount in drafts are in {} so if someone is higher with a lower amount of drafts that could be why. I also included the draft position. Hope this makes sense.

15 random drafts from what? This thread? Did you use drafts where people choose already established NHL guys too?

This thread only and no I didn't use mixed drafts. Just 2010 draft class.

That's freaking awesome! Rep to you, my friend! I got a little worried there that those older players would've skewed the results, but obviously not

    well done Habsfan1...

    here is my concern:

    Kuznetsov 31 25 14 19 38 11 11 12 17 17 11 13 14 17 17.85714286 {14}

Why is this guy going so late? He was rated as one of the elite prospects in terms of skill/size, is a Winger and is in the WSH system?

Is it Russia factor and/or is it that he needs a few seasons before making the NHL roster? Cause if so Tarasenko is in the same boat but plays for St Louis...

Tarasenko is NHL ready now. Kuznetzov in three years at the earliest. That's why he's going late.

Boys I'll post my entry draft here later when the Commish sends out the ecopy but I gotta tell you I picked up Granlund at 15th. I can't believe it.

    Other picks of mine:

    3rd: Campbell
    5th: Skinner
    6th: Connolly
    9th: Tarasenko
    15th: Granlund
    45th: Jarnkrok
    49th: Kuehnhackel

    How'd I do? (Only 2010 draftees available)

Thanks for the feedback in advance.

Tarasenko, Granlund, Jarnkrok and Kühnhackl are steals IMO, most of all Jarnkrok at 45.

Default Kind of a weird draft...

Just finished the prospect draft in my other keeper leauge (protect 9 - max. 3 at LW, RW, C, D, only 1 G and 1 prospect (> 240 GP). Obviously having a 2nd goalie you can activate as prospect really helps since everyone is scrambling to draft a 2nd netminder in the 1st round of the waiver draft to keep them competitive (we start 2G). But it led to kind of a strange draft. But keep in mind it was mostly this years draft class and "elite" guys that managed to slip by in previous years (cough-Eberle-cough):

    1. BGL Canadiens - Taylor Hall (EDM)
    2. Ovie's Baby - Tyler Seguin (BOS)
    3. Wasaga Beach Bums - Jordan Eberle (EDM)
    4. The Ankle Skaters - PK Subban (MTL)
    5. Good Enough - Jack Campbell (DAL)
    6. The Thundercocks - Mikko Koskinen (NYI)
    7. Springwater - Alex Pieterangelo (STL)
    8. Ovie's Baby - Michael Neuvirth (WSH)
    9. Oduya? - Corey Schneider (VAN)
    10. Pure Savagery - Nino Niederreiter (NYI)
    11. Hornet Exterminators - Tyler Ennis (BUF)
    12. Oduya? - Brett Connolly (TBL)
    13. BGL Canadiens - Vladimir Taresenko (STL)
    14. Ovie's Baby - Jeff Skinner (CAR)
    15. The Ankle Skaters - Cam Fowler (ANA)
    16. Oduya? - Jamie McBain (CAR)
    17. BGL Canadiens - Joe Colborne (BOS)
    18. Springwater - Ryan Johansen (CLB)
    19. Crusin4aBruisin - Eric Tangradi (PIT)
    20. Oduya? - Emerson Etem (ANA)
    21. Crusin4aBruisin - Thomas Greiss (SAN)
    22. Hornet Exterminators - Jordan Schroeder (VAN)
    23. Crusin4aBruisin - Dustin Tokarski (TBL)
    24. The Thundercocks - Erik Gubranson (FLA)
    25. Springwater - Alexander Burmistrov (ATL)

My picks (Ovie's Baby) are in bold

Really happy with the way the draft played out for me. I'm left with a prospect pool of Varlamov, Neuvirth, Turris, Seguin, Skinner, and Caputi (max of 6) and Louongo is my keeper in net. So I'm set between the pipes for the next couple of years and don't have to fret about where I pick in the 1st round of the waiver draft to get a good #2 goalie.

I was suprised at some picks (Mikko Koskinen for sure... but thanks for letting Neuvirth drop!). I thought BGL Canadians had the best draft of all the teams (Hall, Tarasenko, Colborne). The bastard won the leauge last year and than managed to make trades for the Hall, Tarasenko and Colborne picks. Dick.

Oduya? made a draft time deal for the #16 and #20 in exchange for his 2nd and 3rd waiver picks this year. Gut reaction when it was annouced was he gave up too much for this year in waiver picks, but liked the move considering all the guys that were still available on the board. But than he kind of ruined it in my opinion by taking McBain (like) and Etem (not so much). I thought he could have done better by grabbing some other prospects I still had on my list.

I'll post my other draft (team in sig) as soon as it's completed. Won't be until mid September though.
