And logging 2 minutes more then any other SABRE, its just amazing what this kid is doing..
40 point rookie D guys just don't grow on trees. I figured Howard still had an outside shot until today. Wow the kid is making me wish I had seen this coming.

Think there could be a sophomore slump though?
A la Steve Mason?

Sure there can always be a slump no matter who you are at what point you are in your career - but a 19 year old D guy with 40 points plus is going to be worth waiting on through a slump.

central scouting ranked myers over pietrangelo and schenn...
Look a bit higher on that list and I think central scouting also ranked Bogosian above Doughty that year. Myers has been a stud though. Starting next year, I'm changing my rule about drafting young D.
Mabus
9 Team Points Only Keeper (Protect 10). Roster of 9F, 4D, 1Util, 2G, 6 Bench
F - Malkin, Kane, Gaborik, Kopitar, Perry, Hossa, Zetterberg, M. Koivu, Hemsky, Cammalleri, Filppula, Ennis, Fleischmann,
D - Phaneuf, Goligoski, Byfuglien, Robidas, Shattenkirk, Hedman
G - Miller, Halak, Pavelec
you still have to be careful... 1 exception doesn't make the rule...
what, we had doughty and myers this year who were viable defenders on any team?
how many defenders drafted the same years haven't been? Pietrangelo, Schenn, Hedman, etc... don't overrate based on a few exceptions. If you're in a keeper league, sure start drafting them earlier... but in one year leagues, i wouldn't change my strategy... at the end of the day, you only lost 10-15 points if you took a 25-30 point vet instead of the young guy...
that will be the better choice in a one year format 9 times out of 10.

Yeah I'd still tread with caution on young defensemen. Many coutos to lanky for his explanation on exceptions and rules.
As far as the Myers goes, I'll lose all faith in the system if he doesn't win the Calder. I also don't see a sophomore slump coming from him. Maybe in a fantasy sense. It's entirely possible they bring in a pure ppQB this summer or some of their other young D step up and take something away from his offense but in terms of overall game he's just so solid. He does so much defensively for the Sabres and I can't see that changing.
