Caps starter down the stretch??
Looks like Boudreau is splitting starts - Varly in tonight.
Theo looks to have staked his claim as the starter, but it still seems like the Caps are leaving the door open for Varlamov.
Theo is available on the wire and if he is the starter down the stretch, he is a good pickup.
If Varly is the man and they are just easing him back, then I won't bother.
Who's it gonna be?

I live in Caps land and while Theo is hot I don't think they trust him and want Varly to be the guy down the stretch. Theo is the only one winning right now but Varly is starting to play better.
My gut is that Varly will end up winning the battle because they want him to but Theo hasn't lost in regulation in 16 games (I believe that is the case). Theo is playing great so I don't know how they keep him out.
The big question when do they stop splitting starts? This week, the last week? I wish I could be more help but in the end I say Varly.

I agree that they are hoping for Varly. He posts a shut out tonight against the shitty Canes and he probably gets the green light. However, if he tanks tonight, then that may be enough to park him on the bench.

The Caps would love to see Varlamov take over. Would make them more comfortable letting Theo walk this summer. But they also don't want to overuse whoever their starter will be going into the playoffs. Hence the split starts.

Not sure why you got that Varly is starting. Looks like Theo has been confirmed and I suspect they try and ride him, he has clearly been playing better of the two since Varlys return.

This what I was saying. He doesn't play bad but finds ways lately not to win. Theo has made most of the saves on the bad plays in front of him and Varly has not.
The winner in OT was a total miscommunication by the D and Whitney skated right in between the circles alone and rifled it home.

It seems all the ways he found to win last year, he's finding to lose this year. Theo in the playoffs and Neuvirth starting next year. Ok, not sure about Neuvirth but I like his chances.
