I'd say Backstrom.
At least he's the anointed starter.
Varlamov's past 2 games back from injury (AHL and NHL) weren't very good. But, who knows? That just might be rust.
Hey guys, I need to settle on either Varlamov of Backstrom before the NHL schedule resumes. I'm wondering how the Olympics will affect either goaltender and who'll get the better numbers in March (1 year roto, W, SV%, GAA, SO).
From what I understand, barring injuries, Varlamov won't see any action in Vancouver whereas Backstrom might get to start a game or two.
Will the Caps rely heavily on Varly when the season resumes? Peripheral numbers don't really matter at this point of the season, so I'm really looking for the most Ws...

Varlamov was pretty terrible against the Senators. I have not been very impressed with Backstrom's play since he lost his equipment in the fire. But I did notice that Backstrom looked more comfortable in his final game before the Olympic break. I think it's a pretty safe bet to roll with Backstrom. He's guaranteed more starts and doesn't have to shake the rust that Varlamov does. Backstrom probably won't see any Olympic action, but you never know.
