The same reason that Chicago or Washington would win in the playoffs is the same reason that Pittsburgh would win in the playoffs: Overwhelming offense and an adequate enough defense (more so Washington than Chicago. I like Chi's defense). Not the goaltending.
I think in W/SO leagues he is still golden but in stats leagues, not so much.

Others have said it as well, but I think MAF is by far the most overrated goalie in fantasy hockey.
That being said I would love to have him because people covet him for the wins, but his GAA and GPG are always pretty pedestrian. He's just not that good, he's just in a great situation that will keep him amongst the fantasy elite for years because of all those wins and the fact that he has the position on lockdown.
