He is getting older and his body keeps breaking down. I seriously doubt Pitts resigns him this offseason, especially with Letang being an RFA and so much of their money already tied up in long-term contracts to the Crosby, Malkin, Staal, and Fleury.

He left practise early and didn't return. His status is questionable for tonight's game (Jan 21st).
It seems he's injured a lot this year.

I agree, unless he takes a huge hometown discount, there is no reason for Pittsburgh to even consider bringing him back. When healthy, he is still a top tier PP QB, but as was mentioned, he is older and a little more prone to those tweaks and such, which means his gp becomes affected. I don't happen to subscribe to Letang being the answer, but with Gonchar out of the picture, he will mature more quickly into the role, and then he and Goligoski can wreak havoc with the imressive forwards to complient the PP.

This is so why Burke should bust his ass peddling Kaberle and Stajan to the Pens for Staal... add whatever it takes to get it done, but it makes both sides happy.
Even if Gonchar returns at a discount next season he may only play 40 to 50 games, so having Kaberle at 4.25 on that team is, I think by far the best deal they could get. Top 4 of Gonchar, Kaberle, Goligoski and Letang? Plus, with what they have upfront? Think of the fantasy points!!!!
Anyway, I'm hijacking this thread now, I should be in in another section... sorry.

Yeah I guarantee he doesn't play tonight. They're saying its a recurrence of his last injury which was some random "lower body" thing. I swear Gonchar is the Chipper Jones of fantasy hockey. Always dinged up and never plays more than 75% of the games in a given season, but he/they have the potential to carry a team for a 4 or 5 week stretch when healthy.
Before we start jumping off window ledges, pens site today says he is game time, but looks ready to go.
