    Default Reasonable Trade?

I'm in a 30-team keeper league that tracks most every stat: points, PIMs, PP, SH, GW, +/-, etc., and has a salary cap in place. I'm currently considering an offer of Brendan Morrison for Brandon Prust, Nikita Filatov and a 2nd round draft pick. Now, my team is currently doing quite well (5th place out of 30), but considering Filatov's ridiculous upside and Prust's ability to get plenty of PIMs (PIMs are 1 pt. each, points are 2 each plus bonus for PP, SH, etc.) and a decent draft pick which would land me a decent prospect. I know Morrison is having quite a good year playing for the Caps, but will he actually hit 60 points again or is Washington too deep for that? And Filatov obviously is gone for the season, but next season or two seasons from now, what do you see his upside as being?

Thanks for any input on this.

To me this looks like a classic buy-low sell-high sort of deal for you. Filatov's value will never be lower, unless he never returns to the NHL, but I find that quite unlikely. Meanwhile Morrisson has had quite a nice season for the Caps so far, but I cannot honestly see him cracking 60 points this year. I'd temper my expectations to about 55 for him.

Filatov is going to be an absolute monster. I see Kovalchuk-lite when I watch the kid play.

I would do this trade without thinking twice about it.

Okay, well now I'm definitely leaning towards accepting the trade, but what concerns me is that a trade like this could potentially hurt my team this year, since I'm quite successful right now (5th place) and don't really want to end up as a mediocre team this year in the end by sacrificing my scoring right now.

On the other hand, yeah Filatov's upside alone probably makes this trade worthwhile. I think I'll go through with it. Thanks for the advice.

If this offer was sent to you, up the ante in favor of you a little more just because you should be able to pull it off - maybe upgrade on Prust and take a lower draft pick?

Don't be too fussy though: pissing off the other GM is easy.

the production from Morrison down to Prust won't be very much to cause you to fall very far in a 30 team league anyway. the upside here is too much to ignore and let's just remember that we're talking about losing Brendan Morrison here, that won't hurt you much at all but the gains are pretty big.
