Lucked out , dropped Neuvirth in favor of Backlund when Emery got injured , then the Flyers go after Grahame.Do'nt know what happened there? Then Varly goes out with an ubi and I luck out dropping Backlund and snagging Neuvirth back to my keeper team, phew!So I carry the three Wash. tenders knowing at least one of them will be a stud and hopefully two!

Did not see Neuvy play tonight (covering Avs/Stars game) but another win for him. Good.

Do you think Washington gives Neuvirth another look Wednesday vs. SJ? Theo didn't play well tonight.. do they give him another shot?

If Varlamov is ready, he'll play Wednesday I think. If not, it's Neuvirth, imo. I don't see them going back to Theo for a couple of games. . . at least.
We get one of these - Don't waste it.

My thoughts exactly ... minus the "at least" part LOL.

Theodore is going down the same route J-S Giguere and Vesa Toskala are ... better refine his game quick otherwise he's done-ski.

    Now, this begs the question.......

It seems as though Varlamov OR Neuvirth is the goalie of the future for the Caps.

Does it make either one of them tradeable?

I think that a guy like Neuvirth could fetch quite a bit on the open market.

I realize that the Capitals have a chance to win the cup this year so there is no chance that they will go into the playoffs with two rookie goalies.

But say they did want to do this. What would be the administrative steps? Would they try to deal Theodore at the deadline and then use the money they are saving to grab another helper on forward or defense?

My thought is if they did, they'd deal Neuvirth before Theo, just for that experience factor.

    What about the 'suck' factor??

Dealing Neuvirth now would be a terrible idea

Why do you think? Varlamov has more than proven (in my opinion) that he's the man.

What contender looking for a Goalie would want Theodore anyhow? That doesnt make sense(Smile)

Thats like saying Carey Price is proven... or how about Mason?

You can not judge ANYONE off half a season.

Varlamov is good - no doubt. But if when he breaks down next year due to trying to live up to his amazing rookie season and Neuvirth takes over... don't be shocked.

It may not happen - Varlamov could straight up be amazing.

BUT - Why would the Caps take that chance and trade Neuvy for a couple picks. Which is kinda what he would get now

    Hyper,

I think how Varlamov worked in last year's playoffs says a lot as well.

I think the general consensus is that Theo is gone next year. I feel that Neuvirth (or Varlamov) is too good to be a backup, and his trade value far outweighs their ability to ride the pine. I think a Clemmenson-esque player would be serviceable.

Let me add fuel to the fire, with ZERO reliable sources on this one.

    Neuvirth for Filatov!

I would pit Neuvy vs. Varly against each other in a supreme battle royale and see who comes out on top!!!! Just let them duke it out for starts next year. Let Theo try to find a new home and don't even think about re-signing him.

wouldnt be surprised if Neuvirth gets sent down when Varly is ready. Back2back stinkers wont help his cause.

Thinkin about our Haitian friends at this time!
