    Default Another Varlamov thread......

Well, it has happened. Varlamov finally has better peripheral numbers than his competition. After last nights game, here are how things look:

    V: 6W, 2.89 GOA, .905 S% with a 75% winning percentage.

    T: 5W, 3.08 GOA, .900 S% with a 38.5% winning percentage.

Could this be the beginning of the end for Theodore?

I sure hope so. I desperately need one of Varly, Price or Mason to step up for me.

    Hang tight there fellas.

Think about how Varly got some of his wins and losses.

    1. Varly took over from Theo and got the win or saved a point.

    2. Varly also got yanked in a couple games and Theo unfortunately took the loss.

the stats are great but in order to be moved Theo has to play, I expect the starts to be split for the next month or two (maybe longer)

As I've explained in many other threads on this topic, Varly has been the better goalie so far this season, even before tonight. However, the Caps will keep playing Theodore as much as possible (until it becomes painfully obvious he is the inferior option) for financial reasons (...they won't have to pay Varly as much in the future). Right now it's only annoyingly obvious that Theo is the weaker option (particularly at home), so expect to see him in net every other game or so until that threshold reaches "painfully obvious"...

I like Varlamov more, but is he SIMPLY a stop gap until Neuvirth is ready (presumably) next year?

I will assume from this that we do actually agree, not sure why you quoted me but anyway.

I was merely pointing out that Varly also had a couple of shaky starts and we musn't get too carried away with him until there is a little more consistency regarding the starter role for Was.

Either way, I have both of them so I don't really care who starts and who's the back up
