I don't know anything about the guy who runs goaliepost, but it does look like he's put in his dues over the years to ask for $10 from people for a year.

That said, it always seems about half the confirmation were user-submitted from reading blogs and newspapers - things people can do on their own. In fact, I know for sure there is one source that posts the same confirmations and won't be charging. Not saying that goaliepost doesn't deserve the $10 he's asking, but the general content he provides can be found elsewhere for free, or you can find it yourself with a little digging.

I guess it's a luxury item if you don't have the time to look for yourself, but it just seems like a hard choice to charge for something that can be found for free.

Best of luck to the guy.

If he can provide timely information (by timely, it means that the goalie lineups are announced the night prior to the matchup), that $10 is chump change.

Why? To a professional gambler/arbitrager, we pay about $250-300 a month for timely information to aid our betting. If this guy can give us a genuine edge over the sportsbooks, $10 for the whole season, again, is nothing.

If Dobber is a real businessman, he should start catering more sports odds, good value picks as part of his website. If he can be 52% (after considering the bookie's juice) right of the time as he indicates so proudly, he will have a legion of followers.

If you agree, add to my rep. If you disagree, lower my rep.

When my mother was pregnant with me, they did an ultrasound and found she was having twins. When they did another ultrasound a few weeks later, they discovered, that I had resorbed the other fetus. Do I regret this? No, I believe his tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man and a little baby.

I've used his website many times last year and found it EXTREMELY useful. $10 for the whole year? That's well worth it. I like to support sites like this and hosting certainly isn't free.

Still waiting on that confirmation email from him though......

If for example my opponent has Tomas Vokoun and if he gets another start which would cause me to lose goalie stats i am not gonna search multiple florida newspaper sites and blogs to find out if clemmensenn is playing or search california papers to see if i should pick up another goalie. The point of the matter is that it costs less than a dollar a month and instead of looking around on the internet for goalie starts, goaliepost has done all the work for you and has most of them there on his site. If this is gonna cost me a dollar a month to have an edge over my opponent then its great you can empty out my pockets and take all my change.

I'm glad he charges because im in a 12 team keeper league where id say 10 of 12 managers use goaliepost on a daily basis. A few managers find out then catch some others on the site then word spreads around and next thing everyone is using it and no one has an advantage. Thats how it happened in our league. I paid the $10 and its a great tool. I know at least half of the managers in my league will not pay the fee because they are too cheap and would rather blow that at Mcdonalds or a pitcher of beer. I'll gladly take a goalie advantage every single night where i can pick up my opponents backup and use them against him.

I mean the guy from goalie post updates it almost every hour or two where there are other sites that only update in the morning and before game time. I think charging $10 is perfect. Its not too much and its not to little but overall $1 a month isnt gonna break me.

People who are crying about this should keep their $10 and make their own goalie site if their so upset

What you'd be paying for on this site is not information but a service that saves you the time it'd take to collect the info yourselves. The proper analogy is Dobber's stat tool, which will be a paid service soon. I can find shift charts and calculate PP times and all those other things myself, but it'd take me way more than the 30 seconds it'd take me on the stats tool.

That being said, the argument about whether 10$ is a measly amount or not is silly. It all depends on a person's particular situation.

If I am currently unemployed, the 10$ is worth more than if I am currently making six digits annual.

If I am in money pools with daily line changes, the service provided for my 10$ is more valuable to me than if I were in no daily movement pools or only in free ones.

If I already read a bunch of local hockey blogs for other reasons, the service he's providing is less valuable to me than if i'd need to put in extra work for it.

If I work without ongoing computer access and free time, or if the time I would take to look for this info is traded off against time spent on ongoing work projects, the service is more valuable.

Now, if you check where every person who posted on this thread is situated on these for criteria, i'd be shocked to find 2 that are in the same situation.

So 10$ for this service has different worth to different people, and no sense in calling people out for being willing or unwilling to cough it up

It all comes down to how valualble time is to you. If you have 10-30 min a night to check a bunch of places to verify who to start then you probably don't need goaliepost. However, if you don't have that much time/intrest to put into finding each teams starter and still want to be competitive $10 is well worth your time.

If you're league/team is competitive then one missed goalie start could lose you a week, which could come back to bite you in the ass later.
