who should I draft?

Hi, long time reader, first time i post!

I have the 2nd pick overall in my rookie draft in which all the 2009 draft class is available plus some players still eligible for the calder (25 games played and less)

In our pool (first season), only points count for skaters and defensemen\'s point are worth 1.5 pts. I just don\'t know who to pick...

who would be your top 5 or 10 considering these players

tavares, hedman, duchene, MSP, Kane, etc. (all the 2009 class), filatov, hodgson, subban, varlamov, just to name a few.

I would rank accordingly:

Tavares, Filatov, Duchene, Varlamov, PMS, Benn, Caputi, Hedman, Matthias, Schenn, Schroder, Kane

I\'m sure there are others that didn\'t hit the 25 game plateau that you could mix in with these guys but definately the top three is solid with:

Tavares, Filatov, Duchene

JVR, Backlund, Moller, Leino, Grachev, Nodl, Gerbe, etc..

yes, a lot of guys from the 2006 2007 and 2008 are still available under those criterias. Thanks for the top 3 by the way.

I just don\'t think Hedman is worth that pick even if we apply the 1.5 ratio... that would make 90 pts for a 60 pts season, which is good, but is he capable of doing that constantly in his career?

Even at 1.5 points for dmen I wouldn\'t take Hedman 2nd overall. There are probably defensemen flying much lower under the radar that you could acquire cheaply and get similar production out of for at least the next few years.

Tavares will go first. After him I\'d be inclined to take Filatov, although depending on your league\'s goalie stats and your current goaltending situation Varlamov might be worth a look too.

by the way, is filatov a risky pick. I know he said he wanted to play in NA, but does being from russia make him a risky pick at #2. I wouldn\'t want a Radulov 2.0.

I think the chances of him heading back to Russia are VERY slim. Probably the same as someone like Kovalchuk. Probably will never happen.
