Default Stanley Cup Finals 2009: Detroit vs. Pittsburgh

something no one has mentioned here is hunger...clearly as the losers from last year the Pens would seem the more hungry of the two teams. One thing I have noticed from the Wings this year is that while they are technically as perfect as ever, theres not the same intensity as last year\'s team...maybe that\'s just \'been there done this\' its hard to say

    Ottawa in 6.

    ...

Wait, sorry, wrong thread - I thought it was 2007. Sigh...

Back to the present: Wings in 7. Last year\'s finals were the most entertaining in years. This year, the Pens are closer to the Wings\' level. It\'s just too close to call. The lucky bounces will determine the outcome.

Talk about hunger? Hossa switched teams to get back to the Finals. He\'s not going to be the guy who switches sides only to lose again - and to his former team. He\'ll be nigh unstoppable.

Red Wings\' Nicklas Lidstrom expected to play in Game 1; Pavel Datsyuk game-day decision
    by Ansar Khan
    Thursday May 28, 2009, 1:15 PM

Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said Thursday that defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom should be ready to play in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals on Saturday.

He said the status of Pavel Datsyuk, Jonathan Ericsson and Kris Draper will be determined on game day. Of the three, Draper seems the least likely to be ready for Game 1.

Lidstrom, who has missed two games with a lower-body injury, skated on his own the last two days. Datsyuk (bruised foot) skated again on Thursday. Ericsson, who had an appendectomy on Wednesday, might skate Friday.

\"I certainly expect Lidstrom to play,\'\' Holland said. \"He hold me he\'s planning on playing Saturday.\'\'

Holland said Datsyuk, who missed the last three games of the Chicago series, is getting better every day.

\"He wants to know when he makes that push that he has that explosiveness,\'\' Holland said.

Lidstrom and Datsyuk are expected to practice on Friday. Holland isn\'t sure if Draper will practice. He has missed the last two games with a strained groin, which Holland said is not significant.

Holland said they won\'t know Ericsson\'s status until Saturday. He noted that defenseman Andreas Lilja had the same operation on a Wednesday in October and played on Saturday, after missing only two games.

If Datsyuk plays with a broken foot that would be amazing. I cannot imagine how painful that must be...Hopefully he does.

I am going for the red wings. Either way the series is going to 7 games

I think penguins have the offense, wings the defense, and if the wings keep the shots down, they have the goalie too I think.

    it\'s gonna be sweet

Until the Wings says what\'s wrong with Datsyuk, it\'s only speculation that it\'s a broken foot.

It\'s also speculation that Havlat has a concussion. Sometimes, you just know. :P

Go Wings. I\'d really hate to be down 1-0 on my bet in year 1. (10 year bet - who wins more Cups, Pitt/Philly).

    I gotta believe

Dats has been skating lately. They were waiting for the swelling to go down. If Mats Sundin (and many other warriors) could play on a broken foot in the playoffs, Dats can too, especially in the Stanley Cup finals

Interesting bet btw. What are the stakes?

Oh so now Datsyuk is Sundin??? just givin you a hard time.

Financially, the stakes are $100...emotionally...there\'s quite a bit of pride/dignity on the line....

    No harm done

Me and my best friend have a hard time during this time of the year for the second year in a row now, just because our favorite teams are facing each other in the finals. He got sooooo pissed off last year and I didn\'t even tease him, so I don\'t know what will happen this year if the Wings win again :P

Well I\'m not one to cheer for the Wings most of the time (since Anaheim is my west coast team - still beat you fair and square in \'07 btw ), but I think I\'d probably cheer for the AntiChrist before I cheer for the Pens. B)
