On the bright side....Ossy let in just as many goals as Conks did

Hope he can still salvage a platoon situation after today...

This is Conklin\'s first really bad game.
And to It\'salwayssunny....c\'mon dude, if you\'re going to tell a story about Ossie\'s numbers, tell the whole story....he has the worst save % and one of the worst GAA in the league. That\'s doesn\'t instill much confidence in your goalie with stats like that.

I just can\'t agree that Conklin should be the starter come playoffs. And I don\'t know if it matters either way-with those two choices in net, considering Ozzie\'s play this year to date, I don\'t see a Cup in their future this year.
In regards to why Ozzie over Conklin:
Career playoff wins:
Ozzie- 59
Conklin- ZERO
We all remember what Conklin did in game 1 of the 2006 Finals, when he blew it, and rode the pine as the Oil opted for JUSSI MARKKANEN. Who knows if there is any residual mental issues with that. Put Conks in a tight important game, and who knows whether or not it gets in his head what he did the ONE time he had a chance in a big game.
For all the Ozzie haters, and I\'m one, his record is 19-5-7 this season. Better than Conks. Conks has looked good all year, no doubt, but Boston and Phoenix got to him.
Listen, on the Wings, ANY big league goalie should get the job done. They are an elite team, and every time they get knocked outta the playoffs its because they get outplayed in net. And when it comes down to it this year, my money is on Conklin OR Ozzie getting outplayed. I\'d take ANY of the top 7 teams goalies over the Wings\' options in a 7 game series.
As of today, they match up with Minny, and they\'ve had trouble with the Wild this year. Not that I think they wouldn\'t win, but I also can totally see Backstrom stealing the series. I can\'t even see Ozzie or Conks stealing the wallet off a blind man. For me, I still see goaltending as of utmost importance, and they just don\'t have it this season(don\'t start hollering how they won with Ozzie last year, because he hasn\'t beenthe same dude).
I am sure glad you wrote this post. You totally saved me the time. Its exactly the way I feel too. Those are both bad options guys. Not the goalie.
Prime example of goalies being direct beneficiaries of the team in front of them. (Pittsburgh wasn\'t too bad when Conklin stepped in there either)

Interesting note from Holland in this article. I cut out the part on the goalies below.
http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index....nding_pat.html
\"Holland said he will not acquire a goaltender. He is confident Chris Osgood will play his way out of his season-long slump. If he doesn\'t, they won\'t hesitate to use backup Ty Conklin in the playoffs.
\"This group has gotten over the hump,\'\' Holland said. \"It\'s like a spring rite; people wonder if we\'re tough enough or our goaltending is good enough. This is a battle-tested team.\"

Yeah, I just hope that was a \"one of\" from Conklin. It\'s was a bad timing, especially after a good game from Osgood.

Okay, my turn to \"chime in\" here with a rant:
I owned both goalies earlier in the year and dealt Osnogood for a decent return, thus leaving Conklin in a position to(i thought) steal the number one job. For some strange reason, the platoon continued....the disparity in numbers was almost atrocious, but for some unknown reason, the Wings love to play in front of Osnogood.
And......(drumroll) tonight, who gets the call against the lowly Blues?? Chris Freakin Osgood!!
18 saves for the \"shutout\"in a game that looked a high school \"seniors vs. freshmen\" special....
Babcock is a homosexual, and he is seeing Chris secretly before and after games.........
Ok, that was inappropriate and libelous, but I am not deleting it.....
I am done...

I love how Osgood has gotten every chance to be the #1, even when he sucked ass. I ****in\' dropped the jerkoff right before he got sent the **** home and felt good about it. Then some dude with some really shitty goaltending takes a chance on the guy and he becomes a ****ing world beater? Come on! Give me a ****in\' break already.
Maybe Detroit should send Conklin home. He\'s already been great. A move like that would make him un-beatable. Then again, do you think Conklin would get a fair chance to become the bona fide #1 after that last start? I highly doubt it.

I\'m throwing a plus one also. Osgood\'s games since he has come back have been against Colorado, the lowest or second lowest team in the league, and the Blues, who might as well be a tier two team. Who does Conklin get? San Jose.
If this is what its going to take to get Ossie\'s confidence back, then good luck to the Wings. Conklin has proven over the year that he is a big time player and he can handle the big time games. If I\'m not mistaken, Detroit plays Columbus on Sunday and they have the worst power play in the league or close to it. UGGGG.
