“Anytime one of your best players is injured it’s a concern,” Wings general manager Ken Holland said Tuesday, before his team’s 5-2 victory in Nashville. “
Our hope is to get him healthy and in our lineup for regular season games.”
Zetterberg, who has an inflamed disc, will see a back specialist again later this week. Holland said he’s making progress, but he won’t travel with the team to Vancouver and Calgary (for games on Saturday and Tuesday).
Holland said Zetterberg is the only injured player whose return can’t be narrowed down.
“We got a target area of one or two games for every player except for Henrik,” Holland said. “He’s the only one we’re really uncertain on.”
Todd Bertuzzi also won’t travel with the team to western Canada because of his surgically repaired back, but Holland said he’ll make his Wings debut in one of three home games following the trip, either March 22 vs. Columbus, March 24 vs. St. Louis or March 26 vs. Anaheim.
“We don’t want him spending six hours on the plane going out and six hours coming back,” Holland said.
