Dan Cloutier placed on Waivers!!!!

TSN is reporting that the Los Angeles Kings have placed goaltender Dan Cloutier on waivers Friday.

Does this open up the door for Jason Labarbera or maybe would they actually be considering keeping Jonathan Bernier as their #1 this year?

This really is pretty sad. From his time in Vancouver, Clouts seemed to be a really great dude.

Unfortunately, he was never true #1 material. Too inconsistent, too many injuries, too much of Crow\'s man crush...

I\'m keeping a big-time eye on what LA does, because Bernier is available as a free agent in my keeper, but we\'ve got a FA limit and I don\'t want to use one up until I know what\'s going on.

Looking at what seems to be developing in LA, heres my theory.
Kings are seeking a new #1 goalie. Labarbs is the short term b-up. Bernier goes to the AHL for a yr or maybe two then takes over as the b-up locked up cheaply and longterm. Following season he\'s the #1.

good point ian. right now LA has 2 backup goalies and a hot prospect. this is gonna be a wild one until they sign a stop gap like cujo for a year which would give them some respectability. they signed aubin, have dropped cloutier and bernier is having a hot pre-season.....so who starts? thats the big question.

I think he was a mediocre to poor goalie who was on a very good team. I also think he cost Vancouver the series vs Det when he let a shot from the blueline go between his legs and lost every game after that. I can\'t blame him for all the other playoff dissapointments, Naslund broke his leg and Bertuzzi was a meathead, but Cloutier wasn\'t helping. Crows man-crush on him kept him in the league here in Vancouver and in LA. Vancouver is on a better path now with the best goalie in the league and arguably the most solid starting 6 D.

Not to mention the rumor that he ran over two people leaving a downtown nightclub in Nov 2006.

The point of waiveing Cloutier is to get his contract down to Manchester...

in which case Aubin goes to Manchester...

and if a deal happens before 10 games into the season Brenier goes back to JR...
