My dynasty league team (14 team league) has failed for this season (11th out of 14 team). This is the team in sig. It is a money league, so I have simply begun focusing on players that will blossom in about 3 years. I don\'t even have a 1st round pick this season (3 2nds) is what I have acquired.

The last place team is loaded with prospects and young guys (1st or 2nd years in the league) and wants to use some of his prospects to add a stud 1st liner. He has inquired about Zetterberg.

    This is his roster:
F - Backstrom, Berglund, Giroux, Michalek, Brassard, Voracek, Turris, Purcell, Mueller, Gagner, Zubrus, Glencross
D - Bouwmeester, Coburn, Stralman, Lee, Barker, Salcido
G - Bernier, Rinne, Harding, Boucher
Farm - Backlund, Bailey, Blunden, Caputi, Filatov, Hensick, Hornqvist, Hodgson, Joensuu, Jones, Machacek, Maroon, Neal, OReilly, Pacioretty, Trunev, Vrana, Corrente, Karlsson, Ratchuk, Sanguinetti, Elliott, Varlamov, Neuvirth

He also holds 5 picks in the 1st round. We have a lottery to determine the 1st 5 picks of the 1st round to protect against one team tanking, so he is not guaranteed Tavaras or Hedman.

A couple of noteworthy roster rules. Our roster limit is 28. It can swell due to trades during the season, but as of July 1, it gets cut back to 28. Farm rosters are unlimited in size. Skaters can stay on the farm for 4 years and goalies 5.

He wants to package Gagner with some forwards. I know he will not move his pick in the draft, Bouwmeester, Backstrom, or Coburn.

Is there a package here that would be worth my while? I think this could give me some good depth at forward down the road. Can you pick out a package that would work?

    Thanks for any advise.

If you move Zetterberg, make sure you get a kings ransom. He is still young so no reason to deal him, he can help with your rebuild. In three years he will still be a top line superstar.

Bernier and Brassard are musts. He also must be willing to throw in at least 2 of his first round picks (preferably BEFORE the lotto as this will help your chances of getting 1 or 2) or Filatov and a 1st. Explain to him that Zetterburg is a top 6 forward in the NHL and he must be willing to give up a boatload if he wants a shot at him.

If he won\'t trade any of his picks then ask for nothing less than this:

Bernier, Filatov, Brassard, Mueller, Barker, and Gagner.

Dump him. He\'s got a lot to offer from his roster. You never know if Zetts\' back will give out.

I\'d say Berglund, Voracek, and Mueller. I would maybe ask for a d-man of your choice aswell. Just explain to him that Zetterberg is on one of the best teams in the NHL, he is only 27, and is on the verge of signing a contract that will make him the main man in detroit\'s plans for the future.

If he wants a stud, he will do this. If he needs to be reminded that he has alot of young talent and is winning this deal, then let him have it. Pour it on.

There\'s a reason that this guy\'s team is in last place, and will be for a while.

You have a top 5 LW in Zetterburg; why in the world would you look at trading him away for prospects? This deal doesn\'t help you now, and since we are talking prospects, it might not help you in the future either.

Zetterburg is young and proven, and hitting his prime years. Add in the fact that he plays for a great team in Detroit, and you have a player capable of getting 95+ points a season.

The only way I could see you making a deal that makes any sense would need to include Backstrom plus at least two of Turris, Berglund, Giroux, Mueller, Brassard and Voracek. I would also want at least one first rounder and something out of his farm.

You don't have Zetts in your roster so you can't trade him.

I would tell him to make you an offer you can't refuse - because you really had no intention of moving Zetts. Go from there - he wants him, make him do the work.

I like the idea of trying to time the emergence of your future studs so that they will all peak at around the same time. I think that is what you are trying to do here.

Nevertheless, Zetterberg is a top forward on one of the best NHL teams in the league, so you will definitely want to get a lot in return.

My feeling is that you'd want three top prospects. Personally I would try to target Berglund, Giroux and Mueller. Other players of interest to me would be Filatov, Gagner, Rinne, or Varlamov. Basically at least three of the above.

    Good luck!

Geez, this new format is not the easiest to navigate. Must be some bugs that Dobber is still working out.
