Do the Kings buyout PLD?
Not really a trade rumor but it seemed to fit this section better than the others.
Whats people's thoughts on the Kings potentially buying out PLD? He was basically their 4th line center and pretty much invisible in the regular season and playoffs. Yes, it would be for a long time, but considering his age, he can still be bought out for 1/3 of his contract.
Looking at capfriendly's buyout calculator, they would be spending $15.8M to get rid of him and saving $31.6M over that buyout term. The worst year, dollar wise against the cap, would be $3.82M in year 2029/2030 and what will the league salary cap ceiling be at that point? $100M?
This is the last chance for them to do this at the 1/3 buyout window instead of the 2/3. Next year, if they want to buy him out the numbers go the other way. They would be spending $31.6M to buy him out and saving $15.8M.
I think they are crazy if they dont seriously consider this, if not do it while they can.

I can't see Rob Blake doing this. Granted, he probably should be fired due to the PLD, Durzi, and Faber deals. What an incredible story it would be if he were bought-out. I don't watch a lot of LA hockey but the viewings I have had of him are so underwhelming. The guy just doesn't compete- so unengaged. Torts was so right about that guy.

He's a 1/3rd buyout candidate if he's bought out before his bday on June 24th. Buyout window happens 48hrs after the Stanley Cup final or June 15th, whichever is later. The Cup Final could be June 24th. Which at that point, Dubois would be a 2/3rds buyout candidate.
I could legit see a 1/3rd buyout of Dubois.

But yeah I agree, I don't see him being bought out.

Which is typically dragged on way longer than it has too so they have the ammunition to do so, but that's regardless of your initial post.
My point on Dubois, and I think it's pretty clear, is that Dubois will have more leash and it's more likely that he is traded, or sent down before he is bought out.
He's literally 1 year into the deal.

Kind of reminds me of Colin White. Not quite the same career high or pedigree, or white the same size of the contract, but it was a big contract that the team bought out a year later so that they could take advantage of that 1/3rd threshold.

Here's the buyout calculator. Shift the date between June 23, 24, and 25th if you want to see the difference between the penalties. in 2028-29 the cap could be $100m and the $3.8m penalty would be like $3.1m on todays cap. It's really not a huge penalty to operate under for 14yrs. It's just...14yrs lol. It really depends on what the ownership sees their window as, and lets be honest, PLD is essentially a replacement level guy getting $7.5m over what you could spend on his production.

i watched this guy live in CGY, and for one period i tried to focus on him while he was on teh ice..and that's about all he was..on the ice. Absolute ZERO engagement unless it was given to him. did a couple loops and off..

I doubt the Kings are even considering it at this point. A lot of factors are out of their control (ie when the buyout window opens and what will Dubois' age be on that day). Not to mention the playoffs started fairly late which likely means a later final game.
They might be fishing around for some kind of mutual exchange of bad contracts similar to the Neal/Lucic trade from back in the day.

is not too often that GMs get fire for making bad deal(s). It usually done based on entire team's performance but those were pretty brutal. I dont think Faber is going to be as good as people thing but still bad deal. Durzi really hurts imo and PLD just being PLD..does not stay happy for long anywhere, does not produce much once he is in that mood...

Wow - this is pretty bonkers situation between the 1/3rd and 2/3rd. Good catch.
I think this happens. I mean if you are GM and get PresHops and say to owner: "Here's the difference?" - don't they say "Do it" !?!
Especially with what PLD has brought.
