It would be pretty amazing for the Isles to make it in, have Sorokin go supernova, and basically turn a poor season into a restatement of him being among the best in the world. I would not be eager to face the Isles in the first round.

Or Sorokin doesn’t play as much as he should then (in Montreal tomorrow of all places) is getting shelled and pulls a Patrick Roy move on Patrick Roy! Demands a trade and next year plays for NJ! Roy does love his buddy Varly so who knows lol. Anyways I agree, wouldn’t want to draw the Isles.
I don't want to see Lou get rewarded for his garbage roster management. It's a roster full of 30 something has beens with little to nothing in the way of viable farm assets to call upon. I can't imagine how anyone would want to watch more Isles hockey than they have to. No thank you.

I know the NYI goalie is Sorokin, but...is it really that crazy to think it's Varlamov going into this playoff run?
Varly: 5-1-0, .938s%, 2.17GAA
Sorokin: 2-4-0, .883s%. 3.22GAA
Since Roy has been the coach on Jan 21:
Varlamov: 12GP 6-4-2, .917s%, 2.59GAA, 372SA (31.0Shots Against/game)
Sorokin: 21GP 11-8-2, .905s%, 2.73GAA, 603SA (28.7Shots Against/game)

Time to put some money on Pitt tonight. I should have on Washington the other night.
I was all set to say there is no universe where your $66M franchise goalie is on the bench for game 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs, but if you look at the last two weeks Varlamov started against the Preds, Rangers, Flyers, Lightning, Panthers and Jets, while Sorokin has faced the Blue Jackets, Blackhawks, Devils, and Wings. And tonight will mark Varlamov's third straight start, when the team's season is on the line. Interesting to say the least.

Then looking at how each guy has done vs the potential playoff opponents:
Varlamov:
Carolina: 1GP, 4GA, 39sv/43sa, OT loss.
Boston: No game
Rangers: 1GP, 2GA, 31sv/33sa, Win
Sorokin:
Carolina: 3GP, 3.66GAA, 0.908s%, 1-1-1
Boston: 3GP, 2.94GAA, 0.901s%, 1-1-1
Rangers: 2GP, 5.51GAA, 0.841s%, 0-1-1
NYI starter is likely who starts Saturday vs NYR. And I think it's Varly starting Saturday.

I think it’s Varly tonight and Sorokin vs Rags Saturday. As per goalie post.
Stop me if you've heard this before. Today is a must win for Detroit.
