Default My Bedard for his Jack Hughes

I reached out to a couple of other managers in my league offering Bedard, and one came back saying he would trade me Jack Hughes one for one.

Should I take it? All category and information of my league is in my signature.

Why are you shopping Bedard? Hughes for Bedard is a legit offer but I am just trying to figure why you were shopping him in the first place.

I acquired quite a few higher picks going into next year and would like to go for it, so I was thinking that I get someone who may help me more immediately, but also is young enough to make sure it's not just a one and done type situation.

It’s not a bad offer but I think you could ask for a little bit more for Bedard.

I understand that this fits the standard "going for it" framework of dealing the younger guy who hasn't hit the same level as the guy you would be getting, but even if I'm going for it, I'm not going to trade Bedard unless the offer is patently ridiculous in my favor. Especially if plus minus isn't a category. Hughes isn't likely to be so appreciably ahead of Bedard so as to win the league for you. If you're going for it, find other avenues to make the run. And if you were to deal Bedard, it has to be for the type of deal where there would be no question in your mind that you had the best team in the league after the deal. Otherwise, it just isn't worth it.

Well lets look at some numbers. Hughes is 22 and Bedard is 18, a 4 year difference. This year, Bedard has 55 pts in 57 games, Hughes, 69 in 56. However, in the last 10 games as Bedard throws away his diaper, he has 14 pts in 10 games while Hughes has 10 pts in 10 games. I'm seeing something here and it's no surprise. If the expectations surrounding Connor Bedard are indeed real, and as he completes his rookie season there aren't too many reasons not to think this guy is something special and the McJesus comparisons are likely well founded. Hughes is skating with guys like Hischier and Bratt, Bedard with Kurashev and Foligno, a bit of a differnce I would suggest in line mates but regardless of that look at the results. I get the going for it thing but the very possible reality is that Bedard will be right there with Hughes in terms of scoring next year, hell, he could be better. However, when Bedard is 22 we may very well see why the McJesus comparisons were indeed legit. As senryu says, unless you get an offer for Bedard which is absolutely stupid, you don't trade away a player like that.

all very good points above that should be heeded. I'm keeping CB here UNLESS its Hughes plus another fantastic player in return. Bedard will still allow you to go for it IMO.

No... I agree with the rest, and think about it. Seems like the Hughes owner is easily making that offer with the hope of landing Bedard. Hughes had 61 games his rookie year with 21 points and was on a similarly bad Devils team. Bedard is on a horrible hawks team and is almost a point per game player scoring at over double Hughes' 18 year old pace. I understand going for it, but Bedard looks really special.

I would definitely take Bedard for my Hughes. Bedard will be a 100-point player next season will blow by Hughes in 2 seasons. Plus, Hughes is a always a hit away from being lost for the season.

Remember, Hughes is still young too...i dong think he reached full potential. I be very surprised if Bedard scores more P/PG than Hughes for next 3-4 years.

Hughes is special as Bedard is, i dont think they are far apart at their best and Hughes is more developed already.

Having said all that, i agree that based on a hype you can ask for bit more for Bedard and probably get it. I dont mind this move for you at all but i also think that 1 for 1 accomplishes very little. Obviously with generational players its hard to compare them to anybody but if i had to pick current NHLer that Bedard reminds me of, it would be JH.

With Hughes slight build and his at times daring almost reckless play, his is more likely to be injured than the average player. At least that is my opinion based on watching a lot of his games.

He gets hurt because other teams target him. Something Bedard is going to find out (and already has this season) more often than not. It's not like Bedard is a bigger guy himself.

I dont want to see anyone get hurt but dont fool yourself into thinking Bedard will not be the target for other teams. His skating isn't good enough to get him out of trouble. I am not saying he's not a good skater, I am saying it's not his greatest attribute. Guys like Hughes, or McDavid, are outstanding skaters and still find a way to get into trouble. Bedard isn't at their calibre when it comes to skating.

trying to anticipate anybody get hurt to prove the point is just insane...i agree with Axe here that chances of both getting hurt are about the same. Hughes does not get hurt by looking at the puck, his injuries came form hits , hard work etc...it may never happen again or it could happen twice a season going forward....same with Bedard and just about anybody out there...
