Default quinton byfield vs luke hughes

i have a hard one on my hand,

i have byfield and he is offering L. Hughes. on a potential basis imma say its pretty even but i look for some advise/opinion

on the other hand i could really use him.
on forward i have: fantilli, johnston, guenther, gauthier, marchenko, kulich, wright and the 1oa also byfield
on defense i have: nemec, mateychuk and spence

to balance things out i think i should do the move but im really torn on potential

you definitely need Hughes more than Byfield based on your team. However, i strongly believe QB is a better own. He is just scratching the surface and i can see a 90 point player on consistent basis. We will see if he uses that frame bit more to be more valuable in multicat leagues but he is already quite valuable in points only.

You have to give to get, and I most definitely agree that you need to balance out your roster and you're addressing a potential weakness by turning a good F prospect into a good D prospect. This deal accomplishes that. I have never been as high on Byfield as some, IMO you are turning a potential PPG forward into a potential 60 Pt D Man and that is absolutely a good thing.

I'm not drinking the Hughes kool-aid. I don't see in him what was abundantly apparent with Quinn even this early in his career, as Quinn shot more and didn't tally more than 50% of his points via the PP. I worry Luke could be more like Will Butcher, who let's not forget looked amazing as a rookie, but then.....not so much. Yes, Butcher was older, but he also was very reliant upon PP scoring and didn't shoot much as a rookie. Just because you have a need for a D more than you do for a F, doesn't mean this is the right deal. Try to get a Brandt Clarke instead is what I'd recommend, if you trade Byfield.

Funny enough, a guy proposed me clarke vs Guenther earlier this season (i have guenther)
I’m holding on guenther for now, as he is lighting it up lately and might try having more than just clarke for him

Agreed, if you can revisit the Guenther for Clarke option I would. You might even squeeze another something coming back to you along with Clarke given Guenther is producing and Brandt's back in the A. I still don't mind the other deal (Byfield for Hughes) but I like Clarke a bit more than Hughes and I like Byfield a little more than Guenther, I definitely like that deal considerably more than the first.

Further to my earlier post, this sums up my feelings as well.

I agree with the sentiment here. Get Clarke if you can. I am one of those that are pretty high on Clarke and QB.

As someone who drafted all the Hughes and watched their development after their drafts, I see where RD is coming from. I'd have a hard time moving LHughes for QB especially with Hamilton coming back next season and hopefully taking over the PP1 spot. Keep in mind that Hughes is still 20 and has a lot of time to still develop which I expect him to.
