Abandoned Team- How do you finish the season?

If an owner abandons a team, how do you finish out the season with that team? Do you have anything in your rules? TIA

Our rules state that the commissioner takes over and manages the team in a fair and honest way (playing the best players on the roster, and maximizing the team’s chances to win, etc). Further, The commissioner cannot make any trades involving the team they are taking over, and they cannot drop a player from either their own team or the team they are stepping in to manage and place a waiver claim for that player. The player must clear waivers and be a free agent for at least 24 hours before they can pick the player up.

While i dont really have rules for that in my leagues, i do take over the teams and just set lines. I have not had that happened often at all but it just happened to me yesterday. Someone stated to me they wont be back next year and once i said that's fine he just decided to not set lines and didnt say the word. He did not set lines since March 7 and i found out yesterday. I just went back, adjusted roster for those days and i set lines for next week. After that he will be gone and i will be looking for replacement for next year.

Agreed with the comments made so far. The Comish needs to take ownership of the team. In most cases I've seen, and these are fortunately very few, the Comish simply sets lines and runs the team day to day, trades, FA pickups, that sort of thing are left to the next owner, the Comish simply does their best to ice the team with what they have. In formats like Yahoo or Fantrax this is relatively easy to do and shouldn't be very time consuming.

yup, just set the lines with all the active players you can, accept no trades, make no FA moves.

Yes, absolutely, you need to make sure the whole league knows exactly what's going on and why. I will mention that another option for the Comish is to have a "trusted GM" from the league take over the team in the interim instead of the Comish, this, provided the league is in agreement with that (Lazy Comish Option....just kidding....sort of). I have seen that, the Comish can be busy as a lot of these guys are actually running multiple leagues, so offloading a little bit of work is an option if necessary or desired.

Luckily never had it happen but I prefer the approach of set the lineup and be done with it.
No adds or drops as that: takes too much time for the Commish, has the potential to cause more problems then it solves.
Obviously a team that is abandoned is going to be bad so set a lineup to "protect the field" as they say in golf and go from there.

Asking more of the Commish is not fair and will cause all kinds of potential claims of bias.

In my league (roto), the commissioner takes over the team, but can only make roster moves to put active players in the line-up for those who are injured. They cannot make any adds, drops, or trades. And if there is more than one available player on the bench who could be activated for the injured player, the player who is most widely owned is who is plugged in for the injured one. We don't have IR spots on our rosters, so the definition of injured is they have missed at least one game and are denoted as "injured" by our stats service.

Why not reach out and find a GM who’d take the team, even if they would have zero commitment to remain in the league? (Sure, if there was success or a welcoming attitude, he MIGHT stay, right?). I don’t think the call would go empty if made responsibly.

commish setting lineups for rest of season is fine but maybe not making adds/drops to avoid any potential conflict

h2h playoffs are starting in most leagues so the situation will be over with soon enough / recruit new dude for 2024-25
