Updated Roster: Who are your 8 Keepers? Will REP

I posted a while back on this team and our trade deadline just passed as of midnight last night. Looking to get some input/ideas/opinions on who your keepers would be.

I am dead last and will have the first overall pick next year. Team is probably a few years out from competing but with it being a keep 8 and only 10 teams you never know but there are a few powerhouse teams lol.

Yahoo Cats are: G, A, +/-, PIM, PPG, PPA, SHG, GWG, Wins, GAA, SV%, and SHO. Minimum 4 goalie starts per week.

I made a few moves yesterday to upgrade keeper options and a few mid round picks. Post trade deadline roster is as follows:

Forwards: Vatrano(C/LW), McTavish(C/LW), Zegras(C), Bratt(LW/RW), Marner(RW), Terry(RW), Caufield(LW/RW), Suzuki(C), Cozens(C/RW), Stankoven(C/RW), Tippett(LW/RW), Batherson(LW/RW)
Defense: Theodore, L. Hughes, Byram, McAvoy
IR: Hamilton, Sergachev
Goalies: Gustavsson, Thompson, Kochetkov

I did not intentionally stack up on Ducks, just happened through trades haha.

Highlighted is 7.
Carolina is Kochetkov's team going forward... he's a definite goalie-keep, IMO.
McAvoy on D... too good.
Marner is your best forward.
There's first 3.

Your forward keepers are very "meh" - they are "good", but not "high-end".
In a 10-team league, everybody is probably keeping 4+ F... so the top 40F in the NHL.
I'm not sure if ANY of your guys, except for Marner, are "top 40", sorry, true.

I'd keep the Caufield/Suzuki pairing.
Double-down there... as Slaf comes... they come.
Worth the keep on potential.

I have faith in Zegras... and with Carlsson eventually hitting stride, Zegras will re-pop.
He's still an 80pt player, IMO.
So that's my first 6.

Yahoo! tends to "rank" their players based on "full season stats".
So, next year break... and any players missing significant time because of injury will drop WAY down their pre-sort list.
For this reason, you risk (! yes !) that players like Hamilton & Sergachev are "redraftable".
You might also do this with Zegras... I don't know... really tough call...

Bratt is my 7th.
He's not sexy... but he's VERY good and the stats will be there and he'll continue on a growing-better NJ PP1.


I know Stankoven is doing great... but because he doesn't have "full season stats" - he will be forgotten (by many) and you just watchlist him and redraft him next year.

My 8th... is probably Luke Hughes.
I think he's the real deal and will patrol that NJ PP1 unit full-time.
So... with Bratt, I'm doubling down on Luke Hughes.
PP1 players are HUGE... especially PP1 D-point men... with the PPG, PPA stats.

And... as a #8 keeper... don't sweat it maybe being a mistake.
A final-spot-keeper, for a BUILDING team, should always, ALWAYS, be "highest upside" (unless you are competing... then you go "sure thing")

I have to think that this is a team that is looking to build rather than compete next year. Unfortunately, across your roster there is not the kind of star power you would like to have in a keep 8. My 8 are based on that assumption:

I'm a big fan of the zero goalie strategy but in your case I fully agree with P7, Kochetkov is a keep for you.
My Choice for forwards are Marner, Zegras, Bratt and Batherson. I'll pass on the Hab duo.
On D, there are some tough choices, I like Hughes, Theodore and Sergachev.
