I see Troy Stecher as being like new NHL Andrew Ference.

Because of his size, his teams always try to build enough depth to push him down the lineup.

Because he’s good and a warrior, he always ends up playing a bigger role than the club intended.

Really nice add for Edmonton.

I can't say I know much about Stecher but there seems to be a lot of love out there for his game play considering his size. He's a RHD who will be a bottom pairing guy if needed. Works for me.

That's a $1.1M cap hit for Stecher and the Oilers are taking on all of it.

Stecher becomes the No. 4 RD. Broberg is the No. 4 LD (for all intents and purposes).

The Oilers have ~$1M in cap space left. They'd likely have move out a contract to do anything notable now.

Yesterday I was going through various non-playoff team rosters considering a bunch of right-handed dmen with low salaries who might fit the bill for the Oilers. Stecher was a name I noticed. I haven't watched him play at all since his days in Vancouver, but it sounds like he still plays the same way. Not a bad depth pick up. He certainly works hard (undrafted, smaller guy who made it to the NHL and can play 16-18 mins a night).

I do not know a thing about Stecher. Is he better than anyone in the Oilers top-6 when healthy?
Or is he a #7 first injury replacement type guy?
