I think they let Reinhart walk. The Panthers are a well managed team and thus will likely see in him what Kadri did in 2021-22 on the cusp of becoming a UFA and will let someone else overpay. It will be a loss of firepower, but the team has stockpiled talent to make it not too impactful.

You could be right, but it sure seems like they are both interested in a reunion. Reinhart also isn't just useful for his offensive firepower, he's a key part of the Panthers penalty kill. But if anyone pays him like a 50-goal scorer, they're sure to wind up disappointed.
