Wow. Cap circumvention strikes again.

It’s not cap circumvention it’s following the rules in place. It’s not magic when Stone gets healthy it’s medicine. Vegas follows the same rules available to every team. The NHL investigates every injury. This argument is so weak and tired and fragile.
FWIW, Dreger is reporting an extension coming, Friedge is reporting it isn’t. So. Who knows.
Did NOT see VGK adding a D... pretty stunned tbh.
I had such high hopes for Hague to move into the top 4 next season... this muddies things to say the least.

Did anyone read the conditions on the first going to Calgary? It's a 2025 UNLESS Vegas trades that pick away before this year's deadline.
So Conroy traded for a draft pick but he's still letting trade that pick away if THEY (Vegas) want to. Also, why does Conroy love Russians do much right now. Talk about not understanding or seeing the big picture.
LOL! Good old Lou.
I have to agree with rataylor though. As much as we all can see what's going on, the GMs are the one's who continually let this happen because they won't bother asking to adjust the rules. Vegas has done nothing wrong or illegal. If (and safe to say we can all expect/predict it) Stone shows up in Game one again, like he has the past couple seasons after going on LTIR just before the trade deadline, it's really getting embarrassing for the league. I have no doubt there are "some" GMs who are barking at Bettman and the league to investigate but you have to think that the league takes these things seriously. Maybe at one point in time they didn't, but in today's game I am pretty sure they have their eyes wide open. That being said, the league needs the PA and GMs to work with them if they want to change the rules.
It is what it is. Chicago started the train. TB followed them and now Vegas has learned how to work the holes. There's a handful of playoff teams today who currently don't have anyone in LTIR, but a lot of them do. This is not just a Vegas issue but a league issue. I have no doubt we'll be discussing this again next year. I wont be surprised it's not Mark Stone again too.

Oh I agree. But the rules in place allow for cap circumvention.

I hate the LTIR circumvention during the deadline, but everyone has the same rules, so it is what it is. Maybe there's a way to keep the same rules for LTIR and cap "increase" but have it where you don't have access to that "overage" for outside players for 2 weeks.
So Stone goes on LTIR March 1st, Vegas can recall players to fill his spot and use the overage cap space for those players, but a player coming into the organization can't use that space. So teams could paper transaction waiver exempt players to the minors, acquire a new player who's cap doesn't go to the overage allowance, then call up those paper transaction players. Or straight up waive players and risk losing them.
But if Stone goes on LTIR Feb 23rd, Vegas can use the LTIR space on anyone March 8th.
Or just have a 105% cap in the playoffs. Which this yr would be $87.675m (+$4.175m).
Or make it kinda like MLB. For each round, you have to set a playoff roster. It needs to be cap compliant. If a player gets hurt and needs a replacement, they can't come back into the playoff series. Each series you submit your playoff series roster. Players who don't make the roster, make them go through Waivers. I don't know how much this would prevent these trades, but it would create speed bumps come the playoffs and would be crazy fun to see the waiver possibilities. Like right now, the Knights likely have Martinez and Howden back for the playoffs on D. They have 8 D right now, so 2-3 of their current D would likely be put on waivers (Hague, Hutton, Bjornfot). Forwards they likely get Stone and Carrier back, they likely lose 2 forwards (they have a few that are waiver exempt). I dunno, I'd love to see this, but 100% won't happen lol.
