I'm fine with the trade. Henrique has put up excellent numbers this year all things considered. Oilers have been playing Janmark in the top six lately. This trade allows them to move Henrique up there instead, or McLeod or Holloway. Carrick gives them 4th line grit, has 8 more goals than Connor Brown but also can kill penalties. All the while it didn't cost them Broberg, Lavoie or Borgault.
They didn't get that top six winger they were hoping for, or did they? Guentzel would have been nice but way more expensive especially once you consider salary retention. Tarasenko would be nice but his offensive numbers are no better than Henrique. Toffoli maybe but is NJ willing to part with him? Same for Buchnevich.
All in all, this adds nice depth for Edmonton. I don't hate it.

It's a solid if not underwhelming move for Edmonton. Though I don't think they needed much. They have IMO emerged by and large the cup favorites.

Based on the numbers from Axeman above any further moves will require salary going out.
I suspect the Oilers are largely done. I would love a D upgrade but do not except anything further.

Talk about not addressing team needs at all. Who's Henrique or Carrick an upgrade over?
The team is still 2 dmen short of a top 4 yet they gave away their most valuable trade asset without addressing their biggest need.

I get what you are saying, chuck...it would have been awesome if they had acquired Tanev, but I doubt Calgary was going to give Edmonton much opportunity there. After Tanev, I am not sure any of the dmen who moved over the last few weeks would have been much of an upgrade to our top 4. Hanifin would have been nice, but again I doubt Calgary would deal to the Oil, even if we had the cap space (which we clearly don't).
I actually really like our lineup for the most part. Ceci, Desharnais, and Kulak are nothing special, but they don't earn much and most other teams don't have much after their top 3 dmen either. I still like Nurse as a second pairing guy, so perhaps I'm biased there.
