    Default Fedotov

    Hey guys

I am not up to date on the matter with Fedotov.

Do the Flyers still have the rights and what are the chances of him moving to the NHL?

Technically they still have his rights, but the short answer is that the chances of him coming over get closer and closer to zero with every passing day. I would look elsewhere for goalie options.

I agree… the question is if this will happen to many other Russians

For some reason that I don't understand, the Fedotov situation seems to be different

I’m not sure it’s different it was just a first and happened just as war started… Kovalenko is next to come over followed by Nikishin. We will see how this unfolds

For whatever reason, the Russian government chose to make an example of Fedotov. I don't see them going back on that. Making an example of one and ruining him makes it clear to other young players that if they are "requested" to stay in Russia longer before going over to NA, there are consequences if they don't follow orders. Not that Fedotov was told that, necessarily. But the example remains that Russia could do that to a young player.

Fedotov tried coming over at the start of the current war...he wanted to come.... but the Russians said he had to fight in the war...

    If I recall correctly.

I’m not sure he actually fought in any war / his military service was to the Russian hockey federation.

yup … it’s mandatory service with some exceptions. I lived in communist run Poland for 14 years of my life. Many of my family members had served in the army but no war…

We should soon have an updated insight into how Russian players will now fair securing Russian Government approval to come to North America to play given the current Marat Khusnutdinov situation. It is reported that both he and the Minnesota Wild are actively striving to get Marat into the US just as soon as practicable.
