Interesting. Someone must have edited Askarov on EliteProspects because his height was listed at 6'5" on the day that I responded. I see that it now says 6'4" / 192 cm. I agree that there's not much difference between Askarov and Wallstedt in this regard. I still prefer Askarov by a good margin though.

Cossa is interesting, but seems like a longer shot at this point. I think he stays in the AHL for at least another season, doesn't he?

Wallstedt otoh will get another game tonight, and there's some uncertainty what the goalie situation will look like next year in Minnesota. If Fleury gets another year, Wallstedt likely will stay most of next season in the AHL. I doubt they'll trade Gustavsson.

you missed the point a bit..Hockeyrobot is Detroit fan and he put both his guy ahead of potential starts and grinned about it:P

but when it comes to goalies, he could be right as well...you never know...

obiously you cant use this as only parameter but the fact that NHL is dominated by Russian goalies atm may do well for Askarov and now we got Fedotov in the mix too

I got the jest. ...but Cossa's stock has risen again after a few years of disappointment. I don't think it's to the level of the three in the poll, but he's a large goalie drafted early and it wouldn't have been unreasonable to include him. Although, I also believe he's a year or two behind the other goalies. We'll see though. I'm mostly interested what we'll see from Wallstedt tonight and perhaps the other two goalies down the stretch.

i dont either but goalies are just impossible to predict year to year outside of few elite ones, its 100 times as hard with goalie prospects...

Another start tonight. I wonder how much these games do to Fleury's potential new contract.

It's a dart throw for sure predicting the goalie carousel!

    I would probably go:

    Askarov
    Wallsted

    Wolf

    Askarov
    Wallstedt
    ...
    Wolf
    ...
The rest of the NHL goalie prospects.

Askarov has two straight AHL years at .912
Wallstedt has two straight AHL years at .908
Both probably jump straight into NHL back-up rolls next year.

For game starts in 2024-25... maybe...
Slight nod for key games to Wallstedt, who (Fleury likely retires or moves on) only has a spotty Filip Gustavsson (and two full contract years) in front of him.
Harder grind for Askarov - who has Saros in front of him... but also... Saros IS only ONE year from his UFA summer in 2025.

Saros - I think - will move on in summer 2025. He turns 29 this week, he'll be age 30 at his 2025 summer UFA.
Some NHL team, say - Detroit, Chicago, Edmonton - will give him $10m for 6 years... I think.
Nashville won't because Saros (say $10m cap hit) is a 90/100 goalie... and they could just go with Askarov (say, $3m bridge cap hit) - a 80/100 goalie for $7m cheaper.
    So teams do that.

For a young goalie, like Askarov, there isn't much better than having a top5 NHL D-man (Josi) there for 4 more years.
    That's fantastic.
