Greig deserved something, not a cross check to the head. That's how I see it.

- don't like getting scored on don't let it happen.
- Rielly wasn't mad he was scored on, it was how
- Greig was wrong, but that response wasn't warranted
- if no one on the Leafs did anything, there would be a "why didn't someone drop Greig" talk.
- I hate the Reaves signing, but wasn't he supposed to stop this?
- Rielly deserves 5-6 games. If he gets more....the DOPS needs a look over. No way are the Leafs what they are, and the most suspended team in the league if the department is fair.

Long story short, Rielly deserves a suspension, Greig deserves to be yelled at by Giroux for what he did.

he has been offered in person hearing which means 6+ i would think...

i agree with everything you said here except the Reaves responsibility here....he could not do anything about it, there was no indication this could happen during the game and im not sure how you stop anything like what Grieg did prior to it happening and he would never be on the ice with net empty trying to score a goal...

Deserves 5+. I personally wouldn't mind however long the suspension is. A cross check to the head, after the whistle, when the checkee wasn't even looking -- isn't this exactly the type of behavior we want out of the game?

So the guy took a slap shot into an empty net. Who f'ing cares? It's worth 1 goal against whether he shot it from the other end of the ice, slid it in from the crease, took a slap shot from the hash marks, roofed a wrister in tight, etc. You pulled the goalie. It didn't work out. Move on.

That is usually the case, yes. If the intent was to give 5 games, they could do that without the in person meeting. That being said, the in person gives Rielly the ability to speak on his behalf to hopefully get it knocked down a bit. Six or more means he could appeal the decision, first by Bettman (he wont change it) and then to a neutral arbitrator. By the time it's usually heard by the arbitrator, the suspension has usually already taken place but at that point, it's more about getting money back for the games missed. At this point, I think it's safe to say it will be 6 or more. If it was 5 or less, Bettman is the only decider on the appeal and again, he wont overrule his guys decision in the DOPS.

You could look at David Perron's suspension earlier this year as a comparable when it comes to the appeal process. Perron had no previous history either and got six. Appealed and lost.

It's funny, the NHL keeps saying "they want to send a message that people can't do this stuff" and give out suspensions, but people keep doing this stuff.

True, but it's a pretty rare occasion when it does happen. I cant imagine him doing it here but who knows.

Don't want to watch someone clapbomb an empty netter on you? Show some emotion during the first 59 minutes of the game and maybe you won't be in that position.

I'll be honest with you, I'd be more pissed off if a guy comes over the blue line on a breakaway and tees up a clapper on the goalie vs doing it into an open net. Sometimes I think their intentions are to hurt the goalie instead of actually trying to score the goal. At least into the open net, he's all about scoring.
