Default Stat corrections - buckle up

Many in hits leagues had been observing that hits were way down this season.

    https://twitter.com/PR_NHL/status/17...522820099?s=20

The stats are now updated on NHL.com, but not yet on Fantrax. The impact is enormous... the before/after comparison shows 6,723 hits added, a 24% increase.

Anybody who is a commish in a league, get ready for "stat changes"... probably less of an impact in roto or other season long leagues, but I would not be even a little surprised to see this retroactively change the results of a whole host of h2h leagues.

Nearly all your heavy hitters are going to go up 10-30 hits. If you were weak in hits before, you're going to be even farther behind now. From what I can tell, most online league providers won't update this today. If you were looking to trade a non-hitter for hits, today is the day to do it because just about every big hitter is going to look more valuable as soon as tomorrow.

It's funny because Eric posted here a few weeks ago, and I turned it into an article, that hits were down leaguewide by.....24%. Go figure.....

It would be nice if the NHL (or someone) gave us a list of the changes rather than forcing us to try and figure it out for ourselves.

Yeah, but after a whole bunch of fantasy GMs would have started making trades for h2h playoffs. Feel terrible for anyone who swings on the other side of a playoff bubble on this.

I'm kind of hoping that fantasy leagues choose not to apply these changes. It's one thing to have a cat swing when stat updates are applied Sunday morning at the end of the week. But to have the scores of weeks-old matchups changing would kind of suck.

obviously every league is different but in my set ups there is 14 or 15 categories so one category maybe change for each team lets say every other week..will adjust standings in tight situations but its not nearly end of the world you describing it to be. Also nothing to do with commissioners, this will be implemented by fantrax and will affect everybody evenly.

in leagues i run in particular, we also count H and B as one stat H+B so even less impact.

Having said all that, still sucks it happened and it shouldnt, someone will probably get fired over it too.

In one of my leagues, we boil all the stats to a single fantasy points number. So far this year 9 matchups have been settled by the equivalent of 25 hits or less... and a 24% increase to hits implies a range of ~5-20 hits per team per matchup, so it's perfectly plausible that it changes a few matchups.

Two matchup wins is currently the difference between 2nd place (and a 1st round playoff bye), and being out of the playoffs!

After the adjustment, hits are basically on-par with last year. A couple percent difference.

Hits per game, by year (it was around 34 hits/game before today's update)

    2018-19 44.7
    2019-20 43.3
    2020-21 44.3
    2021-22 45.9
    2022-23 45.0
    2023-24 43.5

I had originally started that article, and it was mostly spurred by a matchup I had in a league that counts hits. I have Gudas and Larsson who are down this year and I was facing off against a team that had Lauzon.

Lauzon outhit both my guys who I had drafted expecting a high amount of hits from this season. Very curious to see if this balances out these guys and if it helps a player who was already hitting a lot even more.
