Kings fire McLellan

The @LAKings have relieved Todd McLellan of his duties and named Jim Hiller interim head coach for the remainder of the season, according to Vice President and General Manager Rob Blake.

Interesting inasmuch as they are currently in wild card position. Honestly, I'm not sure what someone else does better, and it's not like they're all of a sudden going to become a force in the West, as they have major issues in net and an excess of forwards who are good but not great. How do you revamp this team, other than maybe lighting a fire under PLD and giving Kaliyev a true chance to strut his stuff? A bit of a head scratcher to me.

They are looking at other teams who have made coaching changes and seen a "bump" in the team from it to turn their teams slide around.

That team went on a sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide.
That said - I think they were overperforming for a long time.
Good forward unit.
Not a great defense unit.
And the goalies have always been an overperforming patchwork - albeit at a discount.

Boy... was I wrong about Dubois being a decent add.
Guy has been absolutely miserable.
I cut him way more slack then others (adjustments on new team) - but maybe this team was just fine with Danault as the C2.

We'll see how new coach does!
I was kind of excited for this team to do well.

That would definitely be an upgrade.

I watched a few LA games the first couple of months of the season and was really impressed with their work ethic under McLellan. Not sure what happened the last few weeks but they still have a decent record.

I like the idea. I would hope he’d kick some ass. But the closer we get to April the more they obviously stick with Keefe. Been said all year but the next couple of weeks will tell us something. I think?

You guys are hilarious. A coaching merry-go-round? But seriously, when a halfway decent team wins three of 17, yeah the coach gets fired. And the “bump” woulda happened even if the move wasn’t made.

Ouch, that would hurt a lot! I still like Woodcroft and thought the Oilers fired him too soon...however, it's pretty hard to argue with how the Oilers are doing under the Knob.
