NHL Trade Deadline Thread 2024

This is probably the slowest pre-deadline we've had in a while, and that shows how bad a deadline it is lol. When Lindholm and Monahan are the biggest UFAs, it's not a great yr.

But Friday March 8th is coming up quickly, I think we see somethings move starting Saturday.

I wonder if at this point Conroy is waiting to move Hanifin and Tanev (and possibly Markstrom) until after Kiprusoff night. Flames have had too many ceremonies ruined by pretty ugly losses, presumably they want their best chance to not do that again. Now, I personally don't think that would be good reasoning, but I could see it being Conroy and Iginla's preference.

Are there any rumblings about Ottawa moving Chychrun?
To me - there's huge return - still - by moving him with a full year & this+playoffs (for playoff team) left.

This sort of alienates that OTT fanbase that thought they had (very good) shot at playoffs this year and next.
But, realistically, IMHO - they aren't a team that can afford $8m for all of Chabot, Sanderson, and Chychrun... and they gave it to a less-experienced Sanderson.
So they'd have to give $8m+ to Chychrun... maybe $9m.

Better to, I think, move Chychrun and rebuild.
This sort of major dampens having an elder like Giroux... and squashes possibility of OTT+Giroux being an Eastern playoff team...
But sometimes one has to make those decisions.

OTT isn't close... IMO...
Any Ottawa people hearing anything on their direction this trade deadline??


[as an FYI - could be a tactful "Keith Tkachuk" type trade & return move... because Chychrun may come back to Ottawa in his UFA of 2025. His family is Ottawa-based.]

They are apparently listening to offers on him (saw on Puckempire on Insta), but he has a MNTC (10 team no trade list) but that's not really limited. But his $1m bonus+$6m salary might be enough to push poorer teams away ($2.4m over cap hit).

I looked up the PE post, the quote is "Action around Jakob Chychrun has picked up due to the defense market quickly shrinking. Doesn't mean there's a deal to be made, but teams are likely thinking at least two playoff runs with him may be worth the asking price" - Darren Dreger.

Sounds also like Guentzel will be traded, which is 100% what should happen, and my guess is Vegas.

Elias Lindholm to BOS seems like one of the more "fitting" player moves.
But I feel like VAN/BOS have some sort of thing that will prevent that... Cam Neely maybe... IDK... can't... quite... place it.
