He's 11 p back now. At this pace he'll be 26p back by the end of the season...

    Current standings:
MacKinnon 111p. 17 games left. Projecting for 140p.
Kucherov 107p. 17 games left. Projecting for 135p
McDavid 100p. 20 games left. Projecting for 133p. McDavid needs 2p/g from now on to get 140p. He should pass 100 assist at his current pace if he plays all remaining games.

Stupid argument... if you're extrapolating based on current "pace" then the race is already over lol

McJesus scores in bunches. He can easily close the gap with 2-3 monster games.

The first part was stupid argument - a joke based on the just such monster games you describe. MacKinnon had one just a few games ago. Isn't it worse to extrapolate from hot streaks?

Anyway, I did the standings and projections to get a better view of the current race, not to crown the winner. It's not impossible McDavid has a few monster games and reaches 140p. Otoh, I wouldn't put it past MacKinnon to do the same and exceed 140p. It has to be one of the best scoring races the past 30 years.

Colorado and Edmonton play 3 times down the stretch including the last game of the season for both teams (Apr 18) and both teams will be VERY motivated to beat each other. The scoring race could come down to that final game!

    Current standings:
MacKinnon 116p. 14 games left. Projecting for 140p.
Kucherov 114p. 15 games left. Projecting for 140p.

Man... when was the last time the NHL had three 135pt players?
I'm guessing it was a long, long, LOOOOOONG time ago. (speculating on... 1990-1995 range... ish... around when the NJ neutral zone trap / left-wing lock / clutch&grab all set in... )

That was the peak. Scoring can't go up forever this era either, but given the current and upcoming talent, and perhaps the expansions, and the reluctance to fall into a low scoring period, things should continue up for a some time, is my guess. ...and "elite goalies" will be hard to find.

    Mario Lemieux Pittsburgh 60 69 91 160 +55 38
    Pat LaFontaine Buffalo 84 53 95 148 +11 63
    Adam Oates Boston 84 45 97 142 +15 32
    Steve Yzerman Detroit 84 58 79 137 +33 44
    Teemu Selanne Winnipeg 84 76 56 132 +8 45
    Pierre Turgeon NY Islanders 83 58 74 132 -1 26
    Alexander Mogilny Buffalo 77 76 51 127 +7 40
    Doug Gilmour Toronto 83 32 95 127 +32 100
    Luc Robitaille Los Angeles 84 63 62 125 +18 100
    Mark Recchi Philadelphia 84 53 70 123 +1 95

A few more bonuses because it's an impressive list. Mogilny's 127p the Russian record until Kucherov beat it, and now will improve upon. Kucherov top 3 Russian skater of all time?

Ya a Looong time ago. Got into my first Hockey Pool in 1987 at age 40 (37 years ago, I'm 76 now, still in that pool which was around for 5 years before I got in makes my pool 41 years old)) so experienced those high scoring years. Many originals are still alive and still doing it. We did live drafts back then usually in bars and used the news paper to manually do the stats (just goal-1 assist-1) which is still all we do. Bin fun

    Current standings:
    MacKinnon 127p. 8 games left. 1.83p/g past 6 games.
    Kucherov 126p. 9 games left. 2p/g past 6 games.
    McDavid 125p. 10 games left. 2.71p/g past 7 games.

    Panarin 107p
    Pastrnak 102p
    Rantanen 100p

Seems likely that another four players make it to 100p.

McDavid has been on a tear, has an outside chance of even exceeding his career high of 153pts from last year.
