Good for him. Like the player both generally and for what the Flyers want to be. Could be real nice value for them in a couple years.

I like it for both sides. Obviously we could all see a scenario where he got more, but you just never know if you'll go cold, get injured etc. He probably never imagined getting this offer a couple years ago.

I'm actually not a huge Tippett fan. (even as a PHI person)
Great shot, great wheels - don't love the smarts/decision-making.
But $6m for a winger with that skill-set is a fair number.

Oddly - though the Flyers are overachieving this year - its the guys/group that Hextall & Fletcher brought in that are the main core.

I think he's more of $5m overall guy... but he sure looks good out there.
His face... that ginger hair... and style-of-play... he's a crowd pleaser... so there's money in that.
    Very solid 2nd line winger.

[I will say... on record... I think Morgan Frost <same age, same 2017 draft> is a better "all-around" hockey player... and I'm curious to see what number he's looking at in his RFA summer of 2025.]

I usually use PDO as a way to quickly see a players luck, and Owen's is 97.3 this yr and below 100 the last 3 yrs. So I don't know if maybe that's just him and he'll always run below a 100PDO because he's a lower hockey IQ guy, or is he just being an unlucky player.

I feel like $5m is the new "2nd line/3rd line" money. You can deal with that dollar on the 3rd line, but any better role and then the contract is sweet.

Not to derail the thread (but... derailing the thread)...
Without context, PDO is as bad an analytical stat as +/-. (I'd actually say its a "worse" stat)
One can either support both, support neither, or realize that both require a lot of context once you reference the number behind them.

The players in most control of their PDO are high-IQ, high-skill, two-way centers with average defenders behind them, playing against average competition.
The players in least control of their PDO are low-IQ, low-skill wingers with who-knows-what for linemates playing spottily against great or dismal goalies and getting matched by great or dismal opposing skaters.
Wait. Isn't PDO luck? Yes? No?
    Clear as mud? Exactly.

PDO is an analytic that needs to be put straight-in-the-garbage for referencing most individual players.
(Much better as a "team" & "full season" sort of thing.)
