1 in 6 American women have been a victim of attempted or actual sexual assault. Less than 40% get reported. Of reported cases, 2-8% are false accusations while 2.5% result in jail time. The math is pretty simple. The cost of not believing women is exponentially higher than risk of false accusal.
I get it, bro. And I have a daughter. And even if I didn’t, I still get it.

    Making up numbers is fun.

The numbers are yours. Sure it's a bit below a million if you believe the unreported cases are more truthful than the reported. The numbers still add up and are hardly insignificant on a societal scale, if you got your numbers correct.

Generally, it's a hard thing to put into numbers. But across multiple research papers, it seems like 2%-9% are falsely reported. However, the more severe the allegation, the more likely it happened. And that's (from how I see it) cases brought to police and not the cases that are brought to court. So if you're in court, that number is probably reeeaallly below 2%.

But it's hard to put a number on. And the number that is generally loosely used, isn't that high.

If you’re one of those guys in the 2-9% category, I’ll bet you could care less that it “isn’t that high”.

Agreed. I believe it's fine to say "False accusations are bad and guilty sexual abusers getting away with it are bad" Both can be a bad thing and we can hope for an improvement in both areas.

Isn't that high as being described above.

I can only find falsely accused, and not charged but found not guilty numbers. That would be interesting.

The 5 will be tried together, and they have elected a trial by jury and judge (vs trial by judge). The defendants pick how their 'judged' in Canada.

From my understanding, you do this to try and muddy the water because the chances of a judge finding you guilty are high. So you choose to bring in multiple people who you think might change the outcome.

I had been selected to jury duty a couple of weeks ago, went in and was the alternate in a sexual assault/trafficking case and got sent home. Talking with workers at the courthouse, people tend to choose this route if they think they can change peoples choices vs a judges choice. So this favours a higher chance at guilty.

As for the 5 getting tried together...I don't know why. Maybe to ease the stress on the female who needs to go on trial, it would also lessen the possibility of misremembering situations and providing different answers for the same situation over 5 trials.
