My take on Canada upholding the ban is that there's two reasons for it:
A) to look better and because there is no real big push back on it yet, but it will be at least softened so Makar can go to the Olympics. That's basically a given.
B) It keeps the rest of the team on the hook to provide them incentive to continue to cooperate, and to give them a reason to be more forthcoming with information. If there are any group chats or locker room talk that Makar for example was a part of, then him sharing that to help resolve the case so the ban can be lifted might give him that extra push.

Not trying to pick on Makar, just an example here as he's the main name people are mentioning above.

I mean you also have to consider that more might come out. It’s rumoured that the team chat was pretty….yikes. Hockey Canada is hedging on more information potentially coming out, which is maybe the first responsible decision they made in all of this. I’m sure Makar will get an exception and I’m sure he deserves an exception, but we don’t actually ~know~ that he deserves an exception.

What if the group chat was sharing pictures? What if Makar was requesting pictures of everything? What if Makar was sharing pictures of other women? Now I don’t think either of the second two happened, but waiting to see what else comes out is absolutely the right call, and far more important than hockey.

I sometimes tell my wife that maybe the world needs some 14' tall giants that really get hard-ons for old-fashioned men.
And when they get all riled up, they just grab one of us... trek us back to their caves and ram their fists up our asses for a week or so.

yup! We are living, and have been for a while, in a world where anything little bit suspicious and you are guilty until proven innocent. It’s often not right but it’s what we do…

This is literally a thread discussing sexual assault. The things Belaxus is talking about haven’t changed drastically in any meaningful way. The things Belaxus are alluding to without saying, have. The only people the world hasn’t changed for the better for in the topics being discussed in this thread are old white men who used to be able to get away with anything and can’t now.

Why do people, in sexual assault cases only, presume that those charged are guilty? Because, as already discussed, they almost certainly are. The burden of proof to even bother bring charges is incredibly high. The burden of proof to convict is even higher. The incidence rate of false accusal is miniscule. These 5 will more than likely walk, they are almost certainly guilty, and society at large understanding that is a good thing. A very good thing.

But the “good ole days” were only good for one very specific demographic, and only for one very specific reason.

He's found guilty. He was charged in 2022. His sentencing is in May
