Interesting. Hopefully it is nothing too serious. Both Flyers goalies were playing decent this year.

This is probably one of those cases of correlation being mistaken for causation and hopefully it is just a coincidence, but Dillon Dube took also took a leave of absence this week; both Hart and Dube were members of the 2018 Canadian World Juniors team.

I am hoping its not related either.
You would think if it was then it would have happened on the same day.

But with Dube stating his was for mental health it could be related.
The constant speculation and rumours and such could not be easy on ones mental load.

I don't know. I think that would made it even more suspicious.

Oh this came out sooner then I thought it did lol… I didn’t see a thread yet for it and was about to make one.
Good thing I checked into another thread first, almost added to already rather large pile of things that make me look like a dummy.

What's going on here aside, does this seem to be happening a lot more recently, or am I just getting old?

It does feel like we are seeing a lot of different types of 'stepping away from the team' moves whether its leaves of absence, NHL Player Assistance program, or sending players away to get their head sorted out for performance reasons. Not sure if there's any overarching theme here; there are a lot of very different reasons for it, but it does seem like there is more of all of it.

I literally thought the same thing as I opened up this thread. Is this just a culmination of a greater awareness of mental health, an environment in which people feel safer speaking up and seeking help, and/or the result of different societal changes and pressures? There's my 30 seconds of analysis. Where's the big study done on this?

The league did just open a new division around mental health assistance. Could be that, could be it's coming up to mental health day, could be the riggers of the year, could be WJC related, could be anything.

No point in speculating unless more bread crumbs are dropped really. Until a 3rd WJC player takes a leave, I won't think it's to do with that, but to do with the players own mental state.

(If it's not WJC related) good for him for taking steps on improving himself.

    From Rick Westhead just now

Breaking: Five members of the 2018 world junior hockey team have been told to surrender to London, ONT police to face charges of sexual assault, The Globe and Mail reports, citing unnamed sources. The Globe reports the players, who have not been charged yet, have been given a set period of time to present themselves at London police headquarters.

When a player or anyone for that matter needs to step away citing “mental health issues” it’s important that the reason is accepted as such. There’s no reason to speculate. It’s completely unfair to the individual involved. If facts surface to confirm otherwise, feel free to discuss further.

Formenton is now leaving his Swiss team on a "indefinite leave of absence". So, I would say the dots are lining up that Hart is heading to London ON.

2914olympicgold, it would seem so. I would agree from the “looks” test, there’s more than “mental health issues” at play. As one who deals with mental health issues it’s important we don’t lose sight that mental wellness is important.
