Not going to pretend I like this.
All I can hope for is that I can get used to the idea like I did with Kassian - another player I really had negative feelings for and thought was going to be a useless addition but turned out ok in the end.

Corey Perry is joining the #oilers for the remainder of the season, per sources. Expect his contract to include a manageable pro-rated salary and performance bonuses.

he didnt have much time to gel in Chicago and there really was no reason for him to be there tbh and only reason he signed was the 4mil. However, he has been useful everywhere else he played and im sure he will fit well in Edmonton.

They don't have much cap space so I can't imagine it's for much money this year so I'm fine with it. Expectations have to be realistic though. He won't get PP time and he doesn't kill penalties so he's basically going to play the 3rd/4th line role.
Not sure who's getting bumped to the press box. It should be Brown but it won't be. Gagner maybe.
You have to like Holland's aggressive play to bring in a proven playoff warrior though.

I hate this so much. In theory, this could be excellent. Sign Perry at the minimum and he's a great fit in the bottom-6. Can score some goals, add a different element more suited to the playoffs than Gagner, and even saves you a tidbit of cap versus say Erne, whom they'll presumably waive. Any sort of performance bonus comes out of next year's cap. It's bad enough they'll have a tax on next year from some of the rookie bonuses and of course Brown's absurd $3+M tax. They cannot let Holland keep robbing Peter to pay Paul. Sure, it means one less overpay at the deadline where Holland was surely going to sell 2nds and 3rds for this type of player, but I am just tired of it. Nothing they do transactionally matters unless they win it all anyhow. I'm sick of the constant whack-a-mole game that ends up being a tax on future opportunities.
The ONLY way I want Perry is at the minimum for free. He should want to come for the opportunity. If he isn't bought in at the minimum then they don't need him.
I am happy that Perry is getting another chance to play.
I like the fit in the Oilers lineup and hope that he can help them get deep into the playoffs.

I like it and the Oilers will like it in the post season. Perry is a pest that can still score and his playoff experience is invaluable.
Solid signing

I like the signing. I think Perry brings just enough in grit and checking energy to be a useful addition to the 3rd or 4th line.
The full performance details according to cap friendy:
$775,000 base
Performance Bonus Details: $225,000 earned for 10 games played | $50,000 if EDM wins the 2nd RD of the playoffs and Perry: a) plays in 50% of RD 2 games, or b) 50% of the total of RD 1 & 2 games | $50,000 if EDM wins the 3rd RD of the playoffs and Perry: a) plays in 50% of RD 3 games, or b) 50% of the total RD 1, 2 & 3 games
I do not believe performance bonus' are pro-rated so there may be some overage to next season but it does not appear large.

That one worked out alright, strangely enough. Holland isn't afraid to take a risk to improve his team on a guy with some baggage and I dont mind that. Not all work out but you have to gamble to win. Perry is right up Holland's alley as far as his type of guy; experienced winner.

Are we ever going to find out what he did in Chicago? I find it hard to be excited about him joining any team without being comfortable that there's no lingering off-ice elephant in the room. I need a little closure to root for the guy at this point.
