Reports were Gauthier did not want to play for the Flyers and wouldn't even meet with the team. We will have to unravel this one over time.

As a Mintyukov owner, this makes me happy. I don't know if it really impacts Zegras that much since he is looking more and more like a top 6 winger not a center.

Cutter said during the draft he was excited to be a Flyer, then a few months later changed his mind. I don't think this has to do with being a Pens fan. I think it would have to do with the city more than anything.

Maybe he saw the Kensington Street stuff on Instagram and thought "Nope". Maybe it has to do with Tortorella who was hired June 17th, 2022.

Whatever it is, I don't think it's fair by Gauthier to dodge the Flyers but who knows how pushy they were and Cutter eventually went "F off and let me focus on my tournament". Imagine you told your boss you quit and he shows up at your beer league game trying to convince you to stay?

I agree. He should have been professional and upfront with the Flyers brass but I don't fault a player for having a preference and taking action to get to the team he wants to play for. If he goes 4 in college and becomes a UFA, good for him.

Gauthier told the Flyers he didn't want to play for the organization and said he wanted to be traded. He was up front with the organization. Flyers got a good young asset and pick in return, rather than him just staying in school and walking for just a 2nd.

This framing of it being unprofessional of the player not to meet with the Flyers, rather than the organization harassing a player who had already made his intentions clear, is boomer media bullshit. You're not obligated to talk to someone just because they want you to.

Ya I keep thinking of it as Cutter. Imagine trying to focus overseas on a huge tournament and you're having the team you don't want to talk to trying to talk to you? It's like an ex who wouldn't accept the breakup. Especially after telling them in 2022 he didn't want to be a Flyer.

We're clearly only getting the one side right now, but if Gautheir only said he didn't want to be a Flyer once and then ghosted them, that's his right. It's not like a team is upfront about their intentions with a player always.

I'm 100% for players doing things that GMs do. Blindside + no explanations aren't rare in the GM world.
