I believe Mzarak is done after this season - contract wise.
Ofcourse anything can change. But in terms of future whose the guy to take over down the road?,

    Good question.

Soderblom in the short term but Commesso has potential. Gajan is a long way out but could be in the running in a few years.

My long term bet would be on Commesso.

But I am horrible with predicting goalies.

    My bet would be "Other"

Someone currently not in the organization

Or they might just re-sign Mrazek and run that train until it derails

Expect them to sign/re-sign a veteran. They won't hang Soderblom out to dry, unprotected.

I don't think they have a future goalie at the moment. Nobody projects as a future NHL goalie in the organization.

I'd say they have to sign/trade for a big name in the next year or two in order to prove there in it to win it with Bedard.

I don't think Chicago fans should be worried about this at all. Goalies fluctuate so much except for the half dozen or so elite goalies and even they're not as dominant from year to year. There is no guarantee what any goalie will look like in 3 years. The Hawks have two 2nd round goalies in their pipeline and no one signed to a long term deal which gives them a lot of flexibility especially considering all the upcoming draft picks they have. Of all the holes Chicago has, the goaler position is a low priority at this time. And I agree with the others that the goalie Chicago will have in the future that you'll want for fantasy purposes is most likely not in their system at this time.

Most goalies need to show two years of solid AHL (or KHL) numbers before they "get a shot" at NHL starting gig.

Drew Commesso is in Year1 AHL. So he won't be CHI goalie in 2024-25, maybe backup 25-26. Commesso also predates Kyle Davidson as GM, though KD did sign him April 2023.
Adam Gajan was first goalie drafted in 2023 NHL entry draft, by Kyle Davidson & crew.
So... make no mistake, Gajan is the "golden boy" of Kyle Davidson. That's they guy they'll want eventually.
But most goalies are 5 years out from draft. So 2028-29 is the actual timeline to expect Gajan to be the CHI #1.
    And as a 2nd round pick... that's 50/50 hit/miss area.

I think it's almost a lock that CHI brings in a veteran presence next year.
Very similar to KD signing Hall, Foligno, and Perry (welp, not so much the last one...)
But - we get it. Experience in lockerroom for Bedard is helpful.

The way they are playing, I'd look for one of Brossoit, Talbot, Wedgewood, Martin Jones at $3m or so.

Then 1-2 years of trying out Commesso.
    And Gajan long-term.
