Zegras or Berniers
Hi everyone,
I'm in talks with an OGM about his Zegras or Berniers. Asking price is Woll and my 1st 2024. He's going to lose a stud player at the end of the season due to his rookies being over the GP threshold and a resulting keeper problem, which is why he's wanting a 1st rounder to recover players on the other side. 1st rounders typically get Giroux, Stone, Karlsson. We're both competing (he's 2nd and I'm 4th) but I don't see the standings changing much without significant injuries.
Picks are very hard to come by so I doubt I'd be able to get another high pick. I had intended to dangle my 1st for Byfield, swap for a top 3 2025 1st, or at the keeper deadline when picks are really prized but if Zegras recovers his play (as I'm expecting) then he might pull the deal.
Would you do it and which player would you prefer?

If those are the players available in 1st round, then I wouldn't do it. You're basically hoping Beniers/Zegras put up equivalent to those of Stone/Giroux etc; over the next couple of seasons. I don't ever see Beniers being more then a 70-ish point guy, Zegras has a bit higher I think, but you'll have to waste a keeper spot on them and likely they won't even be as good as the player you could have picked, at least not for another couple of years.
