Default Is Bryan Rust My Answer?

Rust was just dropped in the league in my signature. I’ve been looking for help at RW and am wondering if he’s a guy to help solve my winger problem.

    1. Is he a better RW option than Necas?
    2. Should I burn my 1st overall waiver priority to grab Rust?
    3. If not Necas, is there anyone else I should drop instead (note I need to roster 4 C and 5 D to maximize starts at those positions. Whitecloud is an obvious choice, but he’ll get dropped to clear space once Theodore is back).

    Definitely hold Necas.

Whitecloud or Patera can be dropped and sort out making room for Theodore when needed. Or have you already dropped Patera with Thompson back? If so just go Whitecloud and punt the Theodore decision until later.

Injuries have made team management hard lately. Once my injuries start clearing up, Patera, Whitecloud, and Wedgewood / Vanacek need to get dropped to get Hill, Theodore, and Oettinger activated. I’ll need to drop someone else to activate MaxPatch (assuming he comes back and adds value). So if I do drop Whitecloud now to get Rust, it still seems like I’ll need to drop Rust or Necas at some point (plus someone else if MaxPatch is good to go). That’s the part I can’t see through. And in the meantime, I’m not maximizing my D starts by only carrying 4 D.

I thought about this some more, and I think you’re right about dropping Whitecloud for Rust and dealing with decisions later when players are healthy. Do you think Rust is worth using my 1st overall waiver claim? I have no idea if there’s other teams that may be interested.

What kinds of players tend to cause people to give up high waiver priority in your league? All leagues are different.

If you're thinking about it, then it means he's at least in the ballpark.

Here’s all the players that have been claimed via waivers this season:
    - Couturier (mid Dec)
    - Stolarz (mid Dec)
    - Skinner (mid Nov)
    - Dostal (early Nov)

This was a good exercise you had me do. Seems like there’s lower risk that he gets claimed. Most of the claims were goalie situations and the Couturier claim was by a Flyers homer., maybe I roll the dice that he clears and pick him up right away.

With the news that MaxPac is potentially back this weekend and Connor resuming skating, maybe my RWs aren’t as bleak. If one of those guys comes back, I can shift Keller back to RW and run him + Batherson (with Necas as a depth guy) at RW. Unless Rust is a clear upgrade on any of those 3 RWs I’m thinking I save the waiver priority.

Of those, I can't explain Stolarz really.

Skinner/Dostal are guys who should be the future of their teams, and a good chunk of the present.
Couturier surprises me a but that he went to the wire, but no FOW in your league. If there were FOW, that'd be very, very odd.
