Default Sogaard, Silovs, Portillo, Villalta, Garand

    Hello all!

I know goalies are voodoo and therefore I try to collect a good amount of darts for my dynasty leagues in the hopes that one of them works out. I am curious how all of you would rank this group of goalies.

    Portillo
    Sogaard
    Silovs
    Villalta
    Garand

Personally based on potential opportunity I might have Portillo at the top followed by Sogaard. I don't see Demko or Shesterkin going anywhere for awhile blocking Silovs and Garand. Not sure what to think of Villalta, playing well this year and Arizona is in theory up and coming but there are a lot of question marks there.

    What do you think?

    Thanks!!

I will agree with this other than moving Garand ahead of Portillo.

Rationally, all of these guys are hoping for a backup spot in ‘24-‘25, then an opportunity to make their mark a year later. Shesterkin and Demko certainly look like #1 GK’s beyond 2-3 years, but Garand could take Quick’s place. Sogaard looks like he has the greatest opportunity to be a true starter in two years, and the defense corps in Ottawa will be near their prime then. Portillo could displace Copley, and Cam Talbot won’t last forever. Arizona? If management can stop trading away their best players, that’ll include Ingram AND Vejmelka, unless they get more than just picks over and over again.

    Sogaard
    Portillo
    Garand

    Silovs
    Villalta

    Opportunity matters >> talent ?

I don't think Portillo is a starter anytime soon. LA would be a ton more likely to trade for a Gibson/Jarry/Ullmark in the next two years than give the reigns to a young guy, and whoever they acquire is going to be the goalie the next 6+ years.

Villalta has been okay, but just isn't quite at NHL level yet, and may take a while to fully get there.

Sogaard is the closest to a sure NHL goalie on this list, so he's in his own tier here. Still not the Wolf/Askarov tier, but one or two down from there.

Garand and Silovs are a couple years away but have some upside.

    For me it's:
    Sogaard

    Silovs
    Garand

    Portillo
    Villalta

All of these guys need to move up via being the backup, barring something strange happening.

Sogaard: most faith in him, but Ottawa has 2 guys under contract and the worse one is signed for more money and longer term. I think he's the next Gustavsson, in that Ottawa trades away a young solution to get/keep an old non-solution.

Silovs & Garand could be NHL backups next season. Quick is not an impediment, especially. Neither is likely to be a starter soon on their team, though.

Vilalta is a wild card, due to Arizona being a wild card. Unsure what to make of him, but I don't think he's a NHL backup next year.

Portillo I think is also more than a year away, since the Kings again have a guy doing what they need as the starter who is cheap. Maybe they go get a goalie in the offseason, we'll see.

I like Portillo. Portillo is being groomed to be the next LA starter and he looks really good for the Reign this year. There is no one in his pipeline path.

Thank you all. I guess I saw Portillo with a clearer path with an old Talbot in front of him in net (who I have) vs some of the other guys. Great to get some other perspectives on his timeline though and how people view these goalies. Thank you all!
