Deangelo in a keeper?

Curious if anyone has any insight into what's going on with Deangelo. I know he's benched because of his awful -10, but he is available in my keeper dynasty and I am wondering if he is worth a pickup for the future.

Will he be back in the lineup soon? Does this hurt his future career value?

The road to dynasty hell is paved with the bones of defensemen who didn't get playing time because they didn't play defense. He is a depreciating asset. Maybe he'll have stretches of usefulness here and there, but he will never be what he was that first year in Carolina. He's also 28 now, he's close to aging out where he can't rely on youthful athleticism to cover his defensive indifference. You appear to have a picture of him wearing a Leafs jersey in your post.

After being healthy scratched for a month, TDA is playing 4th line and 1st PP. So a PP specialist at this point. If you can't make it in the Hurricanes tight defensive structure, is there any hope that he'll ever be a regular in the NHL? Bought out a couple of times, crappy defensive game, poor attitude, the only redeeming quality is offense on the PP. The future is bleak for TDA and his fantasy relevance.

If Anaheim cared about this season, he would be a fit there, but there's no point in paying for him in their lost season. Or honestly Montreal has a spot on their D group with the need for a PPQB for their lowly PP.

But at the end of the day, he is a net negative on the ice. His offense doesn't make up enough for his Ovechkin level of effort on D.

I mostly agree but I find that offensive to Ovechkin. He at least hits people when they have the puck. eAngelo may be worst defensive player in the NHL.

Defensive Point Shares (Flawed stat as of now), for both players over the last 3yrs:
Ovechkin (178gp): 4.0DPS
DeAngelo (154gp): 6.7DPS

Ovechkin doesn't impact the defensive end. Ya he hits, but you hit in the offensive and neutral zone. DeAngelo has the ability to play defense, and he impacts the defensive end way more, which is expected for a defenseman.

Ovi's defense is "try to eat up a space in your own end". I said his defensive effort is Ovechkin level. Not his impact defensively which can be different. Impact defensively would be (to me) stuff taken into account in the offensive end even (not giving it away dumbly).

Also, the worst defensive player is Ryan Reaves. You just don't expect him to do much, you expect DeAngelo to do more.

But that does risk suddenly turning a 5 on 4 power play into a 4 on 3 the other way, doesn't it?

I usually see it as a 2 on 1 or maybe a 3 on 2, as the penalty-killing D are generally too far back to join the rush, as are the PP forwards, and eAngelo when he's cheating for offense. It was really nice when the Flyers benched him, the defense improved.

He was benched because he is awful and has a -10. Awful Dman and a not so great person.

Matheson has 13PPP - 8th for Dmen in the NHL & 3 behind Quinn Hughes. Guhle & Hutson are coming. I doubt Mtl wants that personality in the clubhouse with so many young players

Ducks has so many young, offensive Dmen -Mintyukov, Luneau, Drysdale, Zellweger, LaCombe... they don't need him. See personality comments with Mtl. they apply to Anh as well.

Wsh isn't an offensive juggernaut. ADA is too equal opportunist to be a fit there.

I doubt ADA was scratched solely due to his on ice play. His long history of being a poor teammate likely underscores the long absence from the ice.

If Hockey culture was truly changing, ADA would be over seas right now.

In a 20 teamer if you have space I’d definitely find room for him.
