Ya that's probably more to it. Just calling a 5min because you can review it has gotten old when you use it as a crutch for EVERY call it seems. If you are doing that, just use AWS to create a database of what a boarding call is and once it happens on the ice, ding the refs ear to call the penalty and review it then. There's no point in calling everything a 5min to review it, especially when a 5min major carries so much in a one-and-done game and the player being kicked out.

But ya, it's been so annoying seeing a hit where a player gets 5 and kicked out, then a 5min getting called then reversed to 0. I wonder what it would be like if you couldn't reverse it to 0min, which is typical for IIHF tournaments besides WJC....for whatever reason they can only reverse it to 0min in the WJC....

I'm pretty sure they changed a 5 min spearing call into a 2 min slashing penalty late in the third yesterday.

I agree that it seems pretty much par for thecourse for international reffing. I actually consider it part of the charm of these tournaments. Casino style reffing that can swing entire games.

On a different note, we know that next years WJC is in Ottawa but it's to be announced that 2026 will be in Minnesota.

That's a good location for a USA host city.

Benefits me that I could drive there to maybe watch some games; spend 3-4 nights in the Twin cities.

I had sweden over USA in the finals before the tourney. But I have a feeling we're getting a major upset in the semis. I could see either czechia or Finland winning their games. In the end I think Sweden comes out on top, but the style of play the USA plays is much more successful in the preliminary round, and they haven't faced any adversity in this tournament, which sometimes backfires in the medal round. Got a feeling Finland could pull it off. Extra motivation to have a sweden-finland final in Sweden.
The Finns somehow always start slow and get stronger and stronger as the tourney goes on. Feels like it happens every year.

    GET WELL SOON, DOBBER.

I would love to see a Sweden Finland Final.

I want to see a rivalry game and with Canada out... then Sweden and Finland is the best option.

I do think Sweden vs USA could be a really entertaining game... but the rivalry is not as prevalent as Canada/Russia, Cananda/US, Canada/Sweden or Sweden/Finland.

Get those bets on Finland and Sweden gold/silver options....

This one could be going the same way as the Canada Czechia game.

Savoie and Geekie both got traded away from the Wentachee Wild yesterday.

Two top players from a team that was 2nd in the West division.

What an amazing come from behind victory for Czechia today to win the Bronze. Utter collapse for Finland. Is there a more animated goalie after giving up a goal than Kokko from FIN? He's hilarious.

USA vs Sweden, who's taking it? I say USA, but with these refs and the crowd....There could be some bad penalties called in emotion that could help Sweden.

    I am personally cheering for:

    1) a really good exciting hockey game
    2) overtime
    3) lots of goals
    4) Cutter Gauthier
    5) Sweden to win on home ice.
