What are you actually trying to say here? You seem to be simultaneously incredulous about both the idea of him starting the rumor and someone's reluctance to believe that.

I think this lays fully on the Blackhawks.

They were never transparent in the past and now they aren't being transparent and allowed the rumour mill to create a crazy rumour that not only hurts a player, but his family and the persons possible relationships.

Blackhawks Public Relations department is a horrible ran division in my opinion. It's not like there's many things an NHL teams PR department needs to be great at, but theirs have mishandled a lot of situations.

Corey Perry is on waivers, Chicago is terminating his contract.

Statement from Chicago:
"After an internal investigation, the CBH have determined that Corey Perry has engaged in conduct that is unacceptable, and in violation of both the terms of his Standard Players Contract and the BH internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments. As such, Corey Perry has been placed on unconditional waivers. In the event Mr. Perry clears, we intend to terminate his contract effective immediately."

You would think at this point that someone would have come forward and said "don't be ridiculous, that's not what happened", or at least give a clue about the actual reasoning that would dispel that idea so it's not swirling around out there. I'm still reluctant to believe such a crazy story but you'd think they'd want to put that to bed quick rather than let it marinate like this.

You would think if it was a legal thing outside the organization (drunk in public, assault, anything like that), the news would have broken by now. It's clearly he did something that hurt relations with the team and/or teammates. Especially that he walked from the hotel to the arena in his last game (he was scratched that game actually) instead of taking the team bus to the arena.

Performing an action with an employee that's not a player would also get you waived (like hitting/pushing an equipment manager or something).

You'd think it would come out what happened. Especially cause he was playing decently well, well enough to be an asset to a team. So teams will try and do some research on what happened, and I'm sure it'll leak.
